Teamsters Law Enforcement League Supports House Committee Action

Securing Collective Bargaining a Key Legislative Priority

WASHINGTON, June 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Education and Labor
Committee of the United States House of Representatives voted 42 to 1 in
favor of H.R. 980, the Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act this
week. At the June 20th meeting to mark-up the legislation, Congressman Dale
Kildee's proposal received overwhelming bipartisan support.

"We are thankful that Congress has taken an important step in securing
basic collective bargaining rights for law enforcement officers throughout
the country," said Sue Mauren, Co-Chair of the Teamsters Law Enforcement
League and Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 320, a state-wide
representative of police, corrections, and public safety officers in
Minnesota.

"The women and men who put their lives on the line 24-7 deserve to know
that as a matter of national policy, our elected officials support the
right to bargain over pay and key conditions of employment," Mauren said.

The Teamsters Law Enforcement League (TLEL) provides important
organizing, negotiating, and representation assistance to law enforcement
throughout North America. In addition, the TLEL and staff of the
International Brotherhood of Teamsters lobby in support of public employee
legislation before Congress and various states legislative bodies around
the country.
