A Look At Major Union Contrcts Set to Expire in 2009

2009 is shaping up to be a big year for contract negotiations. In addition to the ongoing contract negotiations between Hollywood producers and the Screen Actor’s Guild which could lead to an entertainment strike, a number of major union contracts are set to expire. The largest is between the Communication Workers of America and AT&T. The contract covers 102,000 workers. Also up for negotiation will be the contract covering New York City’s 78,000 teachers and faculty represented by the American Federation of Teachers. A concessionary contract signed by workers represented by the Machinists union while United Airlines was facing bankruptcy also expire toward the end of this year. It is a safe bet that workers will be seeking justification in the sacrifices they made to help keep the airline afloat.

1. Slight Correction, Airline Union Contracts become amendable and don't expire
Wish they did, the Railway Labor Act really jacks things up for the unions.

Management knows this and takes advantage.

That's why this household is preparing for the strike.
