Plaxico Burress still won't play for the Giants this season, but the NFLPA is trying to recoup some of the money he was due to earn.
The union filed a grievance yesterday challenging the suspension and fine handed to Burress in the wake of his shooting at a Manhattan nightclub on Nov. 29. The decision by the Giants, which was made last week, amounted to $823,529 in lost salary for Burress plus the undisclosed fine. He also was due to make $1 million today as an installment for his signing bonus, a payment that seems unlikely.
The union claimed that the Giants' actions violate the collective bargaining agreement. Carl Francis, the union's director of communications, also said that if the Giants withhold that $1 million another grievance could be filed.
An arbitrator will hear the grievance, Francis said, but not until the season is over.
