The lag in new-home sales will sideline 800 to 900 GE dishwasher assembly line workers at Louisville's Appliance Park for a week in June, GE spokeswoman Kim Freeman said yesterday.
Employees who make lower- to midprice GE and Hotpoint dishwashers will receive about 70 percent of their wages and full benefits when not reporting for duty June 4-8.
William T. "Tommy" Spires, president of Local 761 of the IUE-CWA, did not return a call seeking comment yesterday. The union represents the affected workers.
The dishwashers involved are favorites of builders of new homes and owners of apartment complexes and large projects, Freeman said.

This happens just as GE is negotiating new contracts. Timing is everything.
