NLRB files vs. U.S. Foodservice

Arizona Daily Star
Tucson, Arizona | Published: 12.02.2008

The National Labor Relations Board has filed a complaint against U.S. Foodservice Inc. charging the company with unfair labor practices during a union campaign in Arizona.

U.S. Foodservice's warehouse employees, drivers and fleet-maintenance workers narrowly voted against organizing with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters in September.

According to the NLRB complaint, U.S. Foodservice interrogated employees about their union activities and sympathies, threatened employees by telling them they would lose benefits if they chose the union as their collective-bargaining representative and forced off-hour employees to leave company property when they were distributing union literature.

U.S. Foodservice, which has about 20 drivers in Tucson, has until Dec. 10 to reply to the complaint. A hearing will take place Jan. 21 in Phoenix, where U.S. Foodservice will be able to present testimony.

U.S. Foodservice officials could not be reached for comment Monday evening.
