Shop union for the holidays

30 November 2008
MINNEAPOLIS - When shopping this holiday season, consider patronizing union and union-friendly businesses that offer quality products and services while also providing family-supporting jobs.

Minneapolis-based Northland Poster Collective offers a wonderful selection of holiday cards and gifts such as posters, shirts, mousepads and more. Check out their store at 1613 E. Lake St., or view their catalog at www.northlandposter.com

The JOBS NOW Coalition is selling a special 2009 calendar featuring art from the Works Progress Administration, one of the many job creation programs during the Great Depression. The calendar is available at Common Good Books, 165 Western Ave. N.; Micawbers Books, 2238 Carter Ave., and the Minnesota History Center Museum Store, 345 Kellogg Blvd. W. – all in St. Paul – or click here for information on how to order.

The AFL-CIO offers many union-made products through its online union shop. Gift items range from Fiesta Dinnerware and coffee mugs to shirts, golf balls, books and calendars.

In the Twin Cities metro area, fill your grocery basket at the many unionized stores. They include Byerly's Foods, Cub, Knowlans Festival Foods, Kowalski's, Lunds, Rainbow and R.C. Dicks.

For a list of other unionized businesses in the Twin Cities area, visit the website of the St. Paul Regional Labor Federation http://mn.aflcio.org/stpaulunions/ and click on the link, "Buy Union."

3. Unfortunately, seems to be for uniforms -- service people ...
However, I note Joseph Abboud is union --
L&T carries their clothing for men -- it's quite expensive -
I'll look at it when it's on sale --

9 out of 10 womwn's coats I looked at at L&T were made in hina --
dressy or casual --

!!!
