Ruling on union decertification at Bach plant could take until July.

ELKHART -- A nearly 14-month strike, which looked as though it was on its last legs in April, could continue until July, a federal labor official said Monday.

More than 200 members of United Auto Workers Local 364 walked off the job April 1, 2006, in front of Conn-Selmer Inc.'s Vincent Bach musical instruments factory at 500 Industrial Parkway in Elkhart.

About 50 of them have since crossed the picket line and resumed work inside the plant.

The company has hired replacement workers for the rest of the positions.

And many of those who technically remain on strike have found new work elsewhere.

Workers inside the plant filed a petition on April 27 to decertify the union. But a decertification hearing on May 15 was postponed after the UAW filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board.
