Run Kerry Run -- for 2006. Party needs leadership to sharpen image
Edited on Fri Apr-21-06 04:53 PM by Sensitivity
DemocraticDaily Blogger makes great point -- Kerry campaigning as leader of the party in 2006 will
remove the biggest risk for 2006 -- the perception that Democrats are confused and don't have a
plan of action. Whatever the public thought of Kerry, they came from the Debates with the image
that Kerry had a plan and was far more knowledgeable and competent than the "lovable" dunce.

Responses to “John Kerry ‘Thinking Hard’ About 2008 Run”

# Wisdom Says:
April 21st, 2006 at 1:48 pm

The take-away: Forget 2008 till after Novemeber.

Right now John Kerry needs to lead the party to focus on priorities for the fall 2006 campaign. No time for being coy. He is the only one who can do this! Kerry is the last person elected by the people to lead the party and he is the only one who can force the attention of the MSM by virtue of this fact. Priorities include sharpening of the policy debate as well as helping focus the party machine on the kind of operational issues that put his campaign at a disadvantage in 2004.

On policy, Kerry has to narrow the debate to issues core to the national crisis and the Party’s historical tradition: War & Peace, Energy & the Environment, The Law and Our Liberties. Interest group issues such as gay rights, abortion, etc., should be banned — and a group consensus approach does not allow that kind of discipline.

On operations, the Party desperately needs to solve the voter issues that let Republicans win among “likely voters” when they are loosing among “registered voters” and the population at large. Voting machines, polling stations, voter education, campaign fraud. This may be Chairman Dean’s job, but only Kerry, having lost votes because of these problems, can bring the right level of focus on these issues.

This year we know that Republicans are very vulnerable, but the Democrats need leadership to make the most of the circumstances. Who knows what will happen next year. If Kerry does not get the nomination for 2008, so be it. At least he would have made a great contribution to the country by helping bring about a change of direction in 2006.

5. Please don't help candidates for 2006?
Why not?

Did you read the OP? That's what it's talking about, helping the 2006 and forgetting about 2008 for now, something Kerry has been doing. He said he'd make other decisions after the 2006 midterms. He can tell time, you see. I wish others could.

6. Don't help candidates for 2006? Why not?
That's what the OP is talking about. Kerry helping 2006 candidates, not about 2008.

And that's what he's been doing, helping 2006 candidates with fundraising and such. Would you like him to stop?

4. Indeed, a good thing. Which is why he's doing it.
He's not the one who keeps bringing up 2008. He is campaigning for 2006. He's been funraising, and showing up in support of candidates, letting the DCCC use his mailing list, and he and Clark have been out there for the Fighting Dems as well.

9. Talking about the midterms. He knows what time it is.
He's not making any decisions until after the midterms.

Meanwhile, he's letting the DCCC use his mailing list, fundraising for Dem candidates for 2006, and campaigning for them, esp. the Fighting Dems.

In a related note, my 2006 thread keeps sinking off the page as people continue to fret over who is, and who isn't, and who should, and who shouldn't be, running in 2008.

But it's not 2008.

It's 2006.

Kerry knows what time it is.

Do you?

What the hell more do you want? Do you want him to fire a bazooka at Bill Frist on the Senate floor?

Rove currently will do wharever it takes not to lose either or both the house & senate, if he fails he's out of a job which makes bush the lame-duck-boy who would choose to just spend as much time at Crawford because he longer would have any support.

I agree, The take-away: Forget 2008 till after Novemeber.

Just stay in the damned Senate, and continue doing your job. Represent your state, and provide a voice in Congress for the Democrats.

PLEASE DO NOT RUN FOR PRESIDENT AGAIN MR. KERRY. I know you will, and there is nothing to stop you from taking money and contributions, because that is what you politicians do.

You sucked as a candidate, and worse than that...when given the opportunity to stand up and fight for those who backed you...instead, you cowered, and donated all your "legal" funds to the yourself and the party.

Just please stay in the Senate. You're electable. Doing a good job. And we just aren't interested in seeing you screw us up again.

50. The Dem leadership has been doing good things.
The 50-state strategy that the DNC has been working on seems to be gaining a lot of momentum. There is no one "hero" or "leader" that can garner the votes we need in November; state by state, the people will decide.

I like Harry Reid. He has been delightfully outspoken and diplomatic at the same time.
