12. Oh dear !
How come so many of you folk appear to have no knowledge of your own music heritage namely in this case Old Time American Traditional Music from KY and NC etc. Fly away pretty little miss and Sally Ann are standard numbers. Maybe it's just a private joke within the banjo community due to the high number of imports you now have of Chinese and Korean banjos. The Banjo:- America's Instrument : seems to all our yesterdays.

16. Sorry
I thought you were puzzled. I'm really pleased you know those numbers. I do find it so sad when it seems that some of you lot have lost the plot with your regard to your own beautiful music.

Eveb though I'm english I also get bugged by the occasional use of the word hillbilly which in truth is equally as derogatory as the n word.

17. rampant corporatism . . .
. . . has not completely destroyed our cultural roots over here. But close. REAL music exists in small places in college towns and some big cities. There are a few small towns like Winfield, Kansas that are hotbeds of liberalism and blugrass! Kansas, mind you! ;)

18. Count Basie's band
started there as well - I'm also a swingnut. 'Nuffin beats Basie - said he who's 40 pairs of sneakers for dancing to that stuff. I can go dancing on a Sunday night for a couple of hours and then buzz off to listen to Old Time session music with Tom Paley etc.

Have you checked out Luther Wright and the Wrongs bluegrass version of Pink Floyd's The Wall ? Listen to some on Amazon - it's great.

20. Although much of the neighborhood is gone . . .
. . . a couple of the joints that Basie started out in have been restored, and feature live jazz. One of them is adjacent to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum--KC was home to the great Monarch teams. If only the powers that be hadn't run a freeway thru the 18th and Vine neighborhood in 1960. Sigh.

As for bluegrass versions of Floyd . . . I may have to take your word on that one! ;)

Keep Swinging!
