Out of randomness a prediction
DEEP in the basement of a dusty university library in Edinburgh lies a small black box, roughly the size of two cigarette packets side by side, that churns out random numbers in an endless stream.

At first glance it is an unremarkable piece of equipment. Encased in metal, it contains at its heart a microchip no more complex than the ones found in modern pocket calculators.

But, according to a growing band of top scientists, this box has quite extraordinary powers. It is, they claim, the 'eye' of a machine that appears capable of peering into the future and predicting major world events.

1. " The effect is real. The only dispute is about what it means."
I'm not saying anything, lest this thread get moved.

2. I like the 'Global Consciousness' part of the project
interesting, thanks for posting.

I had read about the theory of the 'noosphere' in a scientific journal, based on the notion that human thought is generated by electrical impulses, and like radio waves can travel outward - forming a collective consciousnes above the earth.

I'm basically a skeptical person, but open minded - & this is interesting to think about

5. Hmm, I thought that no computer could generate a truly random
numbers sequence. I know programmers are pretty good at making it look random, so that the average person couldn't tell the difference. But I thought, there was a basic convoluted pattern that the program had to follow, especially back in the 1970's. Any computer experts out there can explain this to me?
