100-day agenda for the new Democratic-controlled House
1. Give their Republican counterparts the same treatment they have given to Democrats since 1994.
2. Open hearings into the Iraq war, and other crimes and misdemeanors of the Bush Administration: 9/11, Iraq profiteering, Valerie Plame, warrantless spying, etc.
3. Repeal the Bush tax cuts for the rich.
4. Repeal all subsidies and tax breaks for the oil and gas industry; pass windfall profit tax.
5. Repeal the no-negotiation, price-protection guarantee for the drug industry in the Bush Medicare bill.
6. Defund Star Wars program.
7. Declare that global warming exists.
...

How do you begin to undo the damage?

1. Well one piece of advice is to remember
They won't have carte blanche to do all these things right off - if they get a majority (which I think possible), they won't have a large enough majority to do all these things - and the Republicans will still have the white house.

I think the first move should be to weaken the White House - i.e. number 2. Hearings on the warrentless wiretaps and valerie plame and the conduct of the Iraq war.

2. My response
1. No. We should be above that kind of pettiness. Gloat a bit, then get to work and don't waste time rubbing salt.

2. Definitely. Once the immunity for holding office expires, investigations should begin. All committees should be bipartisan, to offset the accusation of partisan bias.

3. Will never happen. Even Democrats know who buys their elections.

4. Will never happen. Even Democrats know who buys their elections.

5. Will never happen. Even Democrats know who buys their elections.

6. Definitely.

7. That global warming exists is no long a matter of discussion: the evidence is overwhelming. The only questions under debate is what humans can do to mitigate the damage.

3. I'd forego #1 and #2, for now.
The first 100 Days need to be proof that we "have a plan" and are not just out to get Republicans. Besides, if we're back in power, then holding Republicans "accountable" is a waste of time. They're already out of power and we need to work on building our own majority by proving ourselves, not disproving them.

My 100-Day Agenda:

1) Universal health care

2) Repeal Patriot Act and force Bush to bring home our troops from Iraq

3) Provide proper funding to protect our ports and borders. Focus on security from within instead of stretching ourselves thin throughout the world.

4) Start a REAL No Child Left Behind program that provides real funding to inner-city schools.

5) Pass a resolution to enforce tax-exemption laws (ie. Churches that get political lose their tax exempt status)

6) Begin the "Patriotic Deal" - a new set of public works projects to bolster our technology and transportational infrastructure (including setting up wireless internet in all cities, broadband access to rural America, a new maglev train system that takes the strain off the airline industry and reduces fuel consumption on cars and jets, and making our current infrastructure and buildings more environmentally friendly by retrofitting buildings for energy efficiency). It will jumpstart our economy just like it did during the Depression.

1. Yes, but you should be aware that the GOP will make a big stink about it and make themselves look like the victims. The public never hears about GOP abuses, but because they control the media, the public will hear about Democrat "abuses."
2. This is an ABSOLUTE!
3. Yes, but Bush will still be in charge, and the Senate will still be controll by the Republicans.
4. Same as #3
5. Same as #3 and #4
6. Same as #3, #4, and #5
7. Global Warming alreay exists, and a majority of Americans believe it does. However, a comprehensive energy policy is in order. We should come up with ways to fight global warming and peak oil.

5. Democrats must show that they are about
governing and not petty bull s t. Health care, education and jobs. Their heads will spin and blow off. We are better than they are. Selective parts of the Patriot act should be repealed. Tax breaks should be changed. Drug co.s need to be mindful of their place in society. Do not screw sick people.
