Iran issues stark military warning to United States
http://www.khaleejtimes.com/DisplayArticle.asp?xfile=data/middleeast/2006/April/middleeast_April378.xml§ion=middleeast&col=

TEHERAN - Iran said on Friday it could defeat any American military action over its controversial nuclear drive, in one of the Islamic regime’s boldest challenges yet to the United States.“You can start a war but it won’t be you who finishes it,” said General Yahya Rahim Safavi, the head of the Revolutionary Guards and among the regime’s most powerful figures.

“The Americans know better than anyone that their troops in the region and in Iraq are vulnerable. I would advise them not to commit such a strategic error,” he told reporters on the sidelines of a pro-Palestinian conference in Teheran. snip

“I would advise them to first get out of their quagmire in Iraq before getting into an even bigger one,” General Safavi said with a grin.

“We have American forces in the region under total surveillance. For the past two years, we have been ready for any scenario, whether sanctions or an attack.”

1. Whoa!
Indeed.

Such a war would be extremely regrettable for everyone involved,
and for many not involved.

I wonder when, if ever, rational thinking will take place in BushInc.

5. Iran is not threatening us with regime change.
The propaganda barrage that equivocates our move to war with Iran with their statements of defiance and warnings of negative consequences are part of the attempt to justify our new war crime.

We are already engaged in acts of war against Iran. The war has already started. Please consider that when you post statements that aid the administration's efforts to justify this latest crime.

6. Iran is playing right into the Hands of the Bush administration
Their dire warnings of the destruction of the US military and that "The Zionist regime is a rotten, dried tree that will be eliminated by one storm." are exactly what Bush wants.

Iran's stupid chest beating aids the Bush Administration's propaganda machine.

7. Right now it is hard to see who is playing into who's hands.
Iran's leadership is as crazy as ours, and seems bent on creating a religious war to prop up support for their leadership. Such a war would most surely galvanize muslims the world over against the U.S.

Most serious brinksmanship. In poker terms we call it a semi-bluff.

8. And once again the equivocation obscures the difference
between aggressor and agressed upon. Iran has not inserted its troops into our nation for 'targeting operations'. Iran is not putting developed war plans into operation that include first strike use of nuclear weapons. There is a huge difference from the Iranian position and ours.

9. The reason those people elected a crazy government this time
was because of Bush's stupid-ass saber-rattling. They THANKED Bush for handing them the election with his big mouth and threats.

12. "Iran's stupid chest beating aids the Bush ...
Administration's propaganda machine."

I have to agree with that. Now, they're a "threat" to the U.S. Perfect. :(

He's just stating the obvious, though. They will defend their borders and resist any attack against what they consider legal activity.

10. Totalitarian regimes worldwide are aided by Bush - no question about it
Edited on Sat Apr-15-06 09:22 PM by bushmeat
And Bush is overwhelmingly the aggressor - no question about that.

Iran has every right to defend itself but the Iranian people, like the American people, deserve far better leadership then they are getting.

The fundamentalists in both countries are setting foreign policy and it is frustrating as hell to watch it unfold.
