Anyone have the scoop on the Dove Foundation?
I was just called by what sounded like a tellemarketer. When I said we're on the DNC list, she said that because they were a charity, the list doesn't apply to them.

She said, "We're just trying to clean up entertainment."

I said, "Oh, you're one of those Right Wing groups? Sorry, we're not interested."

Now, I'm wondering if I was too hasty.

8. Some equally creepy group (can't recall the name)
Edited on Fri Apr-14-06 03:35 PM by flamingyouth
called my CELL PHONE last summer. They started asking me all these loaded questions, "Aren't we overtaxed?" and "Aren't you sick of your tax dollars going to welfare cheats?" and crap like that. I just about threw my phone on the ground in a rage. I have NO idea how they got my cell # but I was pissed.

So - someone is selling our names... grumble...

11. ATT has sold or given up my everything.
Once in the run up to 2004, someone called and asked me if I wanted to have lunch with "President" Bush.

I said only if we can share baloney sandwiches after he's convicted.

People like me shouldn't answer the phone.

lol

2. geez, just looking at their advisory board should explain everything
Chamber of Commerce (hardcore right), Medved (no explanation needed), numerous Christian groups, etc.

5. I'm naive about some of these groups which is why I asked.
What tripped the alarm was when she said they were a charity that wanted to "clean up" entertainment.

Don't most charities involve giving to the less fortunate?

9. No, my "geez" was my reaction to looking at the list of names...
...that was NOT a response to you personally. :*

Sounds more like a PAC than a charity, to me.

4. They are one of those right wing groups,
and you were not too hasty.

If you had listened to their spiel for a little longer, you would have heard many leading questions. They take those "surveys" and use them to suggest that everyone wants censorship and so-called "family entertainment."

Family entertainment is fine. It has its place. But steer clear of this group. They are nuts.

17. 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment Announces Partnership with Dove Fdn!!!
OMG !!!!

http://www.christiancinema.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsdesk_id=161

Starting in October, 2005 all movie titles marketed nationally by Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment that have been approved by The Dove Foundation will bear the foundation’s signature white-and-blue logo of a dove.

The “Dove FAMILY APPROVED Seal” makes it easy for consumers to identify movie titles that the foundation deems appropriate for family viewing. Dove’s criteria gauges the levels of sex, language, violence, drugs, nudity and occultism in a film.

Jeff Yordy, director of marketing for Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, said the partnership between his organization and The Dove Foundation “will change the way Fox Home Entertainment markets and promotes family-friendly films, and we expect that trend to continue well into the future.”

“The Dove Foundation, through its clear vision, leadership, and understanding of the American family, has established itself as a valuable resource for consumers seeking quality entertainment and programming that’s suitable for their entire household,” Yordy added.

Foundation chairman, Dick Rolfe said the partnership reflects Fox’s attention to a growing but underserved market, with faith and family consumers searching for palatable entertainment in a market without a consistent ratings system.

even over the phone!

Maybe I can get a gig as a Culture of Corruption psychic.

You're the best, Robbien.

My state Attorney General's office told me to call the FTC: 877-382-4357

:hi:

12. It's a non-profit but, isn't it still shady for them to call themselves a
"charity"?

"The Dove Foundation is a non-profit, publicly supported organization as described in the IRS Code, Section 501(c)(3). Donations, which are the life-blood of the foundation, are tax-deductible. Your donation shows that you care about decent values in entertainment. It enables Dove to stay in the fight and lobby Hollywood filmmakers to produce more wholesome forms of entertainment for your family to enjoy."

13. The Dove Foundation is being sued for violating the Do Not Call list
in the state of Missouri
http://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/stories/2006/03/27/daily15.html

The temporary restraining order is part of a lawsuit by the attorney general's office alleging that Feature Films For Families Inc. of Murray, Utah, and the Dove Foundation of Grand Rapid, Mich., conspired to evade state No Call laws.

Telemarketers from the Dove Foundation claimed its status as a charitable organization provided them with an exemption to the Missouri No Call law. But, the Dove Foundation was using that status to solicit sales for Feature Films For Families, a for-profit organization that sells DVDs and videos, according to a release from Nixon's office.

The attorney general's No Call unit received almost 300 complaints about the calls, according to the release.

The attorney general's lawsuit is asking the court to issue preliminary and permanent injunctions against Feature Films for Families and the Dove Foundation to prohibit the solicitation calls. The lawsuit also asks the court to order the defendants to pay appropriate penalties to the state and to pay the state's costs of bringing the legal action.

Call your state attorney's office and report Dove's call. If nothing else it will cost Dove $$$$$$$ for penalties and court costs.

that are put in our way.

That would be discouraging for most people.

On the other hand, I suppose I should be glad there's still a mechanism we can use.
