1. I like Neil as a musician but...
...he is a bit schizoid regarding politics.

I recall him backing the Repukes before.

15. Funny, many things can be read into poetry, I took that song differently
AS an angry rock and roll song on institutionalizing women hating,
but poetry and music have meaning to the listener in the context of their own thoughts

"what is the color of black when it is burned"

from "I am a child" I still don't know what that means

6. He has seen his ill ways. Admitted making a mistake backing bu$h in 2000.
I read an interview where he stated that he was fooled into believing bu$h/GOP's bullshit. Neil has since found the right path to follow.

9. NewsMax started the story
"Pro-Bush Neil Young Shocks Leftists"
By Carl Limbacher and the Newsmax staff, Newsmax, Dec. 13, 2001

Revised:

"Anti-Bush Neil Young Refuses to be GOP Trophy Bride"
By Frieda B. Onest, BuzzFlash, July 19, 2004

You've got to hand it to the right wing media. Though they traditionally rail against celebrities who air political views, once they stumble across famous folks who embrace any GOP position, they immediately label them "pro-Bush" and parade them around like trophy wives.

Which is exactly what happened to Neil Young when Newsmax got wind of a statement he made in Dec. 2001. "o protect freedom it seems that we're going to have to relinquish some of our freedoms for a short period of time," Young said of the Patriot Act. "But it's temporary, and we can't forget that it's temporary."

But before long, the Canadian icon was singing a different tune. "It's not what we thought we were gonna be doing, a lot of the people's civil rights have been compromised, and we don't know what's going on. If I keep speaking my mind, will I be deported?" he asked the Guardian in May, 2003. (Elton John made similar comments about U.S. censorship as recently as last week).

Young, who included a Clear Channel poster with the words "Support our War!" in his movie/stage production of his latest album, "Greendale," also commented on Clear Channel’s tight-gripped control and ties to Bush and sponsorship of pro-war rallies and pointed to Bush’s ignorance. "And this big deal about Bush landing on an aircraft carrier? Talk about a six-year-old kid with a Tonka toy - we got it here."

Looks like the honeymoon is over. http://www.buzzflash.com/farrell/04/07/far04024.html

3. This one is gonna be an anthem for our nation

"Last Friday, Morgan wrote on her LastLeftB4Hooterville blog that she had been “summoned” to a local studio to sing on the new record with 99 others. “I'm not going to give the whole thing away, but the first line of one of the songs was ‘Let's impeach the President for lyin'!’ Turns out the whole thing is a classic beautiful protest record. The session was like being at a 12-hour peace rally. Every time new lyrics would come up on the screen, there were cheers, tears and applause. It was a spiritual experience. I can't believe my good fortune at being a part of this."

“We finished the session by singing an a capella version of 'America the Beautiful' and there was not a dry eye in the house.

“Neil said it should be out in 6 to 8 week">>>>>>snip

5. Tin soldiers
Tin soldiers and Nixon coming,
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drumming,
Four dead in Ohio.

Gotta get down to it
Soldiers are gunning us down
Should have been done long ago.
What if you knew her
And found her dead on the ground
How can you run when you know?

Gotta get down to it
Soldiers are gunning us down
Should have been done long ago.
What if you knew her
And found her dead on the ground
How can you run when you know?

Tin soldiers and Nixon coming,
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drumming,
Four dead in Ohio.

12. According to Neil
He was quoted out of proper context as being pro-Reagan, and his comments
were distorted beyond comprehension.

19. Doesn't surprise me in the least
I don't really evaluate celebrities based on their politics, but in 1980, Neil's remarks about "standing on your own two feet" scandalized the hipster crowd.

Belinda Carlisle had the same deal. Her husband worked for Reagan briefly, leaving quite disenchanted, and she was scorned as a wingnut bitch for years -- erroneously.

There may be a Lynard Skinnard song to be located unrecorded and unpublished. My My Apple Pie, about we all did what we could do,but there is far more to do, with the theme being he should have been impeached befor he was elected.

21. Rockin' In The Free World
Rockin' In The Free World by Neil Young
--------
There's colors on the street
Red, white and blue
People shufflin' their feet
People sleepin' in their shoes
But there's a warnin' sign on the road ahead
There's a lot of people sayin' we'd be better off dead
Don't feel like Satan, but I am to them
So I try to forget it, any way I can.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

I see a woman in the night
With a baby in her hand
Under an old street light
Near a garbage can
Now she puts the kid away, and she's gone to get a hit
She hates her life, and what she's done to it
There's one more kid that will never go to school
Never get to fall in love, never get to be cool.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

We got a thousand points of light
For the homeless man
We got a kinder, gentler,
Machine gun hand
We got department stores and toilet paper
Got styrofoam boxes for the ozone layer
Got a man of the people, says keep hope alive
Got fuel to burn, got roads to drive.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

The song is an attack on the policies of Ronald Reagan and King George I. It was on the 1989 album "Freedom".
It was played during the closing credits of "Fahrenheit 911".
