And Lou Dobbs gets another chance to attack his second fav group to attack
Edited on Thu Apr-13-06 11:19 PM by RGBolen
Time for more attacks on Non-WASPs wanting to do business in our country, all "in the name of the middle class," of course.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. panel that reviews foreign investments behind closed doors was sending
President George W. Bush a recommendation on Thursday on a Dubai-owned company's proposed $1.24 billion takeover of Doncasters, a British group with U.S. plants that supply the military.

the left wing of the new Nativist Party will stand up for isolationism as soon as a post not saying Dobbs is great is put up.

5. Please
The reason why people disagree with those bashing Dobbs is because it's crystal clear they're not even watching his show.

Want to know who he "attacked" today? Corporate lobbyists, Rumsfeld and the Bush administration in general.

18. Looking mighty lonely in here, eh?
I call 'em the Naivetist Party since they clearly have troubles picking up on his tactics. He's already begun his push to label the May 1st Boycott action as having "Marxist undertones" being supported by "communists, socialists, and anarchists", along with immigrant rights and Hispanic civil rights groups, and labor unions "trying to increase their membership rolls". And in his further attempts to revive GOP support within the Hispanic community, he claimed that poor Rep. Sensenbrenner tried so hard to amend his nice little bill, by changing his original call to make undocumented workers guilty of felonies and reducing that to misdemeanors. But that attempt "was blocked by Democrats". No further explanation of why or what actually happened that day in Congress, just button pushing. Dobbs is like the Pavlovian experimenter...he rings the bell, they drool.

The guy does his best to save his party, it's just not the one this board represents.

20. That's funny, because yesterday he was vehemently defending Reid
And even framed his daily poll question in his favor.

22. You have an odd way of hearing "vehement defense",
where I hear conservative Republican. In what way did he promote the cause of any Democratic attempt to bring about actual immigration reform, in either the Senate or the House? Dobbs has denigraded both the AGJobs bill and Sen. Kennedy's original immigrant bill (before asshat McCain leeched onto it), since they were introduced. Were you even watching him last fall, in the lead-up to the vote on the Sensenbrenner HR4437?

And how did his poll favor anything democratic? He has continually equated the Democrat's efforts at gaining citizenship and legalization and a voice to unionize for undocumented workers in this country as giving them "amnesty".

Dobbs can fool some of the people most of the time, but he ain't foolin' any progressives. He is an avowed Conservative and proud of it.

23. If you would have watched the show, you would know
But here's part of the transcript - what it doesn't convey is tons of eyerolling by Lou and whatnot - but he says that Reid carried out the will of the American people, to Bush's chagrin:

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0604/13/ldt.01.html

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid and President Bush are locked in an increasingly bitter battle over illegal immigration legislation. President Bush today personally blamed Senator Reid for the collapse of a Senate compromise that included guest worker amnesty.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

GEORGE W. BUSH, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: He refused to allow senators to move forward and vote for amendments to the bill. It was a procedural gimmick that meant he was single-handedly thwarting the will of the American people.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

DOBBS: "Thwarting the will of the American people."

Senator Reid shot back with a statement saying, "President Bush has as much credibility on immigration as he does on Iraq."

The statement by the president that the compromise going down to defeat of the Senate was to thwart the will of the American people is interesting, since the majority polled oppose the president on the issue of illegal immigration.

So in our poll tonight, we wanted to ask you, is it your will to give illegal aliens amnesty? Yes or no?

Cast your vote, please, at loudobbs.com. We'll have the results here later in the broadcast.

He's an avowed Independent these days, btw. And yes, I've been watching Lou for some time now. He's the only talking head out there speaking up for the middle class. One doesn't have to agree with someone's position on every single issue to enjoy or support them. What I do know is that Lou speaks his mind, he doesn't shill for any party. For being a "conservative republican" with an agenda, he sure does rip the Bush administration a new one every night.

25. He is and always has been a Conservative Republican...
and described himself as such when he was in Cancun...but stopped his comment short and the transcript now conveniently has "inaudible" in it's place. He takes great care to make it seem as tho the average working person is a part of the great "middle class", which is the typical conservative tactic to make us think we have anything at all in common with those who buy our labor.

I've watched Dobbs since he was a shill for CEOs and business on his Money Line show, specifically because I feel it's necessary to keep an eye on those who promote and sell the "ownership society" meme of the right-wing. The man detests labor unions and every organization that represents actual organization, solidarity, and fighting for the rights of working people in our country and abroad.

He's done nothing but denigrade progressives and the Democratic Party ever since he began this "Broken Borders" campaign, including condemning the AFL-CIO, SEIU, UFW, the church groups who support workers rights, and any other labor activists concerned with actually improving the state of working people in America.

Just like many "old-school" Republicans who presume themselves as representing the backbone of the capitalist system in America, he is desperate to save his party from imploding and if bashing the "White House" is what it takes, Dobbs is there. Obviously, he's quite successful, if all it takes is for him to utter the words working people/middle class in his daily diatribes against the uniting of our working class.

And you never did show me any example of Dobbs "vehemently defending" any Democrat.

7. Shame on you
We have these nice friendly billionaires from UAE who have massive ties to the Bush family, James Baker, John Snow, and most other billionaire republicans, just trying to make a dollar. You should be ashamed of yourself. We're giving our jobs away to foreigners, so why shouldn't we give our ports away to foreigners? Why shouldn't we put them in charge of our nuclear facilities and our chemical plants? Why don't we just give them any fucking thing they want? We can't protect ourselves, our jobs, and our families, that would be racism.

8. Frankly, GOOD. Dubai is not a land of "freedom loving peoples"
It is run by SEVEN ASSHATS IN THOBES who OWN EVERYTHING. They are free to exploit, because those who have the gold and power make the rules. This is a country, one of only three, that formally recognized the TALIBAN. They happily shipped heavy water and nuke materials to IRAN, while cooing sweetly at the US. They are NOT NICE PEOPLE, these seven jerks who inherited everything. They will do business with anyone, and sell our asses down the river if there's advantage to be taken.

Let's have a look at the UGLY SIDE of the UAE:

Stress and depression

But Dubai has another face. On the outskirts of the city, where the desert begins, are the concrete barracks where the workers live, thousand upon thousand of them. ...the men building it are migrants from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal.

They work for about $5 a day, sleep four or five to a room, and see their families once every two or three years because it's hard to raise the money to pay for a trip home.

..."We get 600 dirhams a month ($160)," said one. "They deduct 200 dirhams for our food and it costs another 100 for us to phone home. It's impossible to save anything."

"Many of the workers suffer great stress and depression," says KV Shamsudeen, an Indian businessman, who has set up a charitable trust on their behalf. ....

Read the whole article--this is SLAVERY, most foul. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4903794.stm

Still feeling the love for these bastards??? Read on:

“One of the world’s largest construction booms is feeding off of workers in Dubai, but they’re treated as less than human,” said Sarah Leah Whitson, Middle East and North Africa director at Human Rights Watch. “It’s no surprise that some workers have started rioting in protest. What’s surprising is that the government of the UAE is doing nothing to solve the problem.”

Though the skyscraper strike was settled, the UAE government has been unwilling to make a real commitment to stop systematic abuses by employers, including the extended non-payment of wages, the denial of proper medical care, and the squalid conditions in which most migrant workers live.

Migrant workers comprise nearly 90 percent of the workforce in the private sector in the UAE. They are denied basic rights such as freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining.

Human Rights Watch urged the UAE government to drastically expand its staff overseeing migrant labor treatment. According to government sources, the ministry of labor employs only 80 inspectors to oversee the activities of nearly 200,000 businesses...the UAE government should also reform its labor laws to conform to international standards set by the International Labor Organization, and become a party to the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families, Human Rights Watch said.

The UAE is not a party to key international human rights treaties such as the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights...The governments of the United States, the European Union, and Australia are currently negotiating free trade agreements with the UAE. Human Rights Watch called on these governments to require improvement of UAE’s labor practices and legal standards before signing such agreements. Human Rights Watch also urged these governments to include in any free trade agreements reached with the UAE strong, enforceable workers’ rights provisions that require parties’ labor laws to meet international standards, and the effective enforcement of those laws.

http://hrw.org/english/docs/2006/03/28/uae13090.htm

The 'government' of the UAE is seven guys from seven emirates. They get together and pick one to be the front man. That's their "leader" but it's more of a PR job than anything else. Oh, and they have a SUPREME COURT, too!! Guess who's on that?? The same seven bastards. If you're related to these clowns, you'll do OK, so long as you don't dissent from their party line. They RENT half their damn army from Pakistan and elsewhere. They treat gay people in DRACONIAN fashion--by contrast, that dickweed Fred Phelps is a pussycat. Years in jail are guaranteed if they get caught, and the DEATH PENALTY is on the books for the "crime." http://www.sodomylaws.org/world/uae/united_arab_emirates.htm

I remain UNIMPRESSED with our nation's relationship with these despots. Why was it so crucial to bring "democracy" to Iraq, yet we ignore this kind of shit going on in places like Dubai and Pakistan? It reeks of hypocrisy.

Lou's reasons may be suspect, but he's right on this issue--these guys are NOT our friends.

9. You must be kidding.
Do you actually believe we should be allowing foreign entities to have exclusive domain over vital manufacturing and management (ports and defense)?

The Doncaster's deal goes deep into both.

So how do you feel about TDC (that is the Texas Department of Corrections, in case you did not know) processing your car title info? Do you know that those guys have the type of car you drive, your address, your social security number, etc., on file?

Tell me, how do you feel about that?

13. My two favorite states..
My family crossed the Sabine River in 1630 to settle in what is now Angelina County.

They left behind family in present-day Jennings, Houma, Vinton, etc. .

Even tho I am most recently from Dallas, the upper Texas coast owns my heart.

But I did not spend 27 months in combat (SE Asia) to enable our government to outsource basically everything.

I do not enjoy losing. Losing anything.

Do people start watching somebody because they do one story they like, then bash the christ out of them when they go back to being what we already knew they were. I get a chuckle out of this. :D

26. Me too..but it only shows how desperate most of us are
Most of the "news shows" diss everyone and everything we hold true, so here comes Lou stepping up to the plate decrying outsourcing, and liberals "thought" they had finally gotten someone in our corner, but true to human nature, Lou always goes back to his comfort zone...bashing immigrants and foreigners.

Lou's book about outsourcing coincided with all his shows about the topic, so was he really just on Lou's side more than ours??

Lou is a kinder gentler Pat Buchanan.
