He lost. He should get over it and keep his mouth shut. He lost. He can't change the rules just because he doesn't like the outcome. He's being a sore loser. Now is the time for all Italians to support the new Prime Minister.

3. I am surprised Berlusconi didn't fall when joined the war in Iraq.
Berlusconi's fate will be the same fate as his friend next door Jose Aznar, who was ousted in Spain because he took Spain to war and made Spain a target of the 3/11 Madrid attacks.

Italy vote rigged: Berlusconi
From correspondents in Rome
13apr06

ITALY'S defeated prime minister, Silvio Berlusconi, has criticised "vote-rigging" in the country's elections, saying he is "confident" of an eventual victory.

"(There was) so much vote-rigging, I am confident the result must change," Mr Berlusconi, who lost the election to Romano Prodi's centre-left coalition by a tiny margin, told the press as he emerged from his home in Rome.
The prime minister had yesterday denounced what he called a "great many irregularities", which he claimed occurred during the election.

He has refused to accept the victory of Mr Prodi's alliance.
"The rigging was all in one direction, it was absolutely not evenly spread," said Mr Berlusconi. ...

He then challenged the journos at his presser, saying "Did you think you'd got rid of me?"

He's also demanded a recount!!! http://www.marketwatch.com/News/Story/Story.aspx?guid=%7BA15AF04B-90C1-4AC3-8F99-0B67B61DCE74%7D&siteid=google&dist=

8. Imagine your disappointment
if you rigged the vote to win, but not quite enough.

12. Yeah, my take is that he got a little lazy, in addition to his hubris
He's been prancing about like Mister Untouchable since he got the hair plugs. From his comments, it does appear that he's been brought up short--he's acting like he's had his face slapped!

The election was held and a winner has been declared. Romano Prodi wins, Il Duce II lost.
