'United States planning a military strike against Iran'

By JPOST.COM STAFF

The United States government reportedly began coordinating with NATO its plans for a possible military attack against Iran.

The German daily Der Spiegel collected various reports from the German media indicating that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization are examining the prospects of such a strike.

According to the report, CIA chief Porter Gus, in his last visit to Turkey on December 12, requested Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to provide military bases to the United States in 2006 from where they would be able to launch an assault.

The German news agency DDP also noted that countries neighboring Iran, such as Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman, and Pakistan were also updated regarding to supposed plan. American sources sent to those countries apparently mentioned an aerial attack as a possibility, but did not provide a time frame for the operation.

1. Let's not jump the gun.
Throughout the cold war, we "planned" countless military strikes against the Soviet Union. We currently "plan" for military strikes against China, North Korea, Iran, any country that *might* pose a potential threat in the future.

Doesn't mean we're about to strike the country in question. It means the military is supposed to think it through ahead of time and know what resources they need to have ready should it ever become a reality.

It's all about being prepared, and that is the job of our military.

3. If past history is any guide...
We or the Israelis WILL hit the atomic reactor sites and likely destroy them. We gave the Israelis a bunch of Harpoon missiles not long ago, and there will certainly be use of them if so decided, apparently, by Bush. He never rattled sabres before without using them as soon as he could, rightly or wrongly.
History will judge him harshly, I think.

5. There is a department in the Pentagon...
that does NOTHING but write war plans.

They have plans for EVERYTHING.

What to do if Bermuda invades Florida? There's a plan.

Look up 'War Plan Orange' and 'Rainbow 5' to see the planning that took place between WW1 and WW2... War Plan Orange was the plan to deal with a Japanese attack on the Philipines... and the U.S. Navy followed it from 1943-1945. (The plan was postponed due to the Pearl Harbor attack). Rainbow 5 was all the war plans from the period, called 'Rainbow' because each country mentioned was color coded. England was Red (and all the commonwealth members were varients of red), Germany was Black, Japan was Orange, The Azores was Grey (obscure reference), China was Yellow (yes, racism was involved in that selection), a U.S. Anarchist/Communist revolt was White (ALL the possiblities were covered!)

A 'plan' existing doesn't bother me... moves to activate and implement such a plan DOES.
