Is anyone else hoping Saddam pulls an OJ?
I am. The wingnuts' heads would all explode. They would then know that Herr Bush "fought for nothing". Lives would be saved - both our soldiers and Iraqi "collateral" killings.

Free Saddam!

Save our soldiers and get out now.

31. They've got about six more charges they are waiting
to try him for.

If he walks on this one they just go to trial number two.

If he's guilty in this one, games over and he dies.

He doesn't have a chance.

6. I wouldn't wish that on the Iraqi people
because they've suffered enough. Saddam Hussein was a thug and a bully who led his nation into a ruinous 8 year war against Iran and allowed his two sons to run wild against the people of that country. Now that they've got him, I sincerely hope they lock him up where he can't hurt them any more.

We still need to leave ASAP. Then we need to supply whatever governmen arises with materials for rebuilding. We don't have to like them. We owe them.

9. What do you mean by "pull an OJ"?
You mean by some technicality you hope that Saddam gets acquited and then spends the rest of his life looking for the "real dictators" (while playing golf instead)?

Or you hope that Saddam has a trial that spans two years, costs the taxpayers tons of money and uses every "expert witness" known to man kind?

18. If Truman could nuke two Japanese cities to "save US lives"
(rational but ruthless act) - why would freeing Saddam be such a bad thing?

Granted, its a long shot, but things can't get anyworse in this Bush clusterfuck of a war.

If Saddam walked somehow it would be a disaster for the Chimp and he would be just another Sunni fighter in the Iraqi civil war.

Support for this war would then fall to < 5%

23. I'm not sure your theory makes any sense.
freeing saddam would accomplish nothing, actually.
Bush's sheeple would not blame him, in fact, they would rally (they're weird that way).

support for this war is already less than 30%. That's 7 out of 10 people don't like the war.
The problem isn't the people. The problem is no one is holding Bush accountable for treason and war crimes.

It's Wheel of Fortune over there.

Let the wheel of justice spin,
Bring the guilty bastard in.

This trial is supposed to make everyone feel good. Only problem with their plan is that Saddam didn't get the script. They wanted tears and contrition, they're getting a guy who will not bend. It isn't really going the way they planned, he refuses to be the broken shell of a man they want him to be.

15. Nope. He's A Criminal Piece Of Shit Too, Let's Face It. I Don't Want
him to get the death penalty though, but damned if I want to see him go free. Not like he's a nice guy or something. Just because shrubby deserves to be impeached and imprisoned for his acts of war, lies and criminal acts, that doesn't diminish how much of a piece of shit saddam was too. They both deserve to be held accountable. Course, OJ should be rotting in fucking jail too. All 3 of those fuckers deserve to be brought to justice.

It would be fun to watch--Saddam has that sense of irony and style that's entertaining in a villian. But I don't think that there's any chance of an acquittal by this court. You could produce hard proof that the most Saddam ever did to his enemies was have them stepped on by bunny rabbits, and he'd still be lined up for execution.

32. Your post makes me sick.
There's plenty of hard proof that Saddam committed atrocious crimes, and as someone upthread pointed out led his people into a disasterous war with Iran, not to mention his stupid adventure in Kuwait. You demonstrate a callousness toward the Iraqi people that makes me ashamed that you're posting here. Just because what the shrub is doing to the people of Iraq is hideous, doesn't mean that what Saddam did wasn't equally deplorable. You want him aquitted because you enjoy his "sense of irony and style"; ugh, just ugh.

28. Yes, didn't he agree to go into exile before we invaded?
We could have shipped him off to the Hague and peacefully allowed the government of Iraq to make a transition.

The fact that George the Terrible wouldn't do it only proves to me that he's a bigger criminal and despot than Saddam.

35. Yes, he did agree to go ito exile months prior
to Shock and Awe. He also stated that the inspectors could take as long as needed to hunt for the WMDs that weren't there.

I so want the fact that the U.S. sold him chemical and biological weapons to come out in his trial.

39. not sure why this post was deleted, so I'll reiterate: the war could have
easily been avoided by accepting Saddam's offer to leave the country and face trial in exile.

?- at least I think that's what I wrote. not sure why that's offensive, but oh well.

I was opposed to the way we deposed Saddam, however, he deserves to be tried for his crimes and sentenced for them. It would be a kick in the face to the families whose sons and daughters have died in this war to let him go free.

And I don't understand how lives would be saved. Maybe you need to talk to an Iraqi and see how the average man or woman over there feels about this. I think it is pitiful that anyone would want to see him go free just to prove "we" were right. This is the kind of crap that gets DU in the RW blogs. I'm sure this will be there tomorrow.
