because they've suffered enough. Saddam Hussein was a thug and a bully who led his nation into a ruinous 8 year war against Iran and allowed his two sons to run wild against the people of that country. Now that they've got him, I sincerely hope they lock him up where he can't hurt them any more.

This trial is supposed to make everyone feel good. Only problem with their plan is that Saddam didn't get the script. They wanted tears and contrition, they're getting a guy who will not bend. It isn't really going the way they planned, he refuses to be the broken shell of a man they want him to be.

It would be fun to watch--Saddam has that sense of irony and style that's entertaining in a villian. But I don't think that there's any chance of an acquittal by this court. There's plenty of hard proof that Saddam committed atrocious crimes, and as someone upthread pointed out led his people into a disasterous war with Iran, not to mention his stupid adventure in Kuwait.
