Honestly, is there *any* other reason for the talk of attacking Iran?

Look at this site:

http://www.pollingreport.com/2006a.htm

Of all the questions that they ask everyone (IOW, not the questions they ask to "only democrats" or "only republicans", EVERY SINGLE QUESTION is in the Democrats' favor.

EVERY SINGLE GODDAMNED ONE OF THEM.

So, in their sociopathic disregard for the country and, well, the world, they see those numbers and think, "Oh crap! Our numbers are in the toilet! We need to do something to get the people behind us again!"

Nevermind that the Iraq war was a debacle of epic proportions, and Iran will make Iraq look like Grenada, but, hey...

First the immigration, now Iran.

:scared:

1. They'll do anything not to talk about Leakgate
and apparently it's working.

2. Actually, I think they fear Shi'a Iran, and they want a friendly regime in
there as a firm counterweight. I suspect they will TRY to do it in more hands-off fashion. I also suspect they'll tolerate "Democracy Very Very Lite" with a heavy frosting of Islamic law. I think they want young Reza Muhammad Pahlavi to go in there and take over as the Constitutional Monarch, balanced with a prime minister who has been there and has broad appeal and is willing to accomodate.

The challenge is, how do they bomb the crap out of the place, then install young Shahinshah, without everyone figuring it is another USA set-up; a puppet government? The only thing I can think of that could calm people down (a big maybe, that) is if they have found a way to flip the military. In context of the bombing, the military stages a coup, saying the Ayatullahs FAILED to protect the nation, accuse them of corruption, some sort of shit like that, and then some general takes over temporarily (the Turkish model), and he goes on TV and tells the people that they need tradition, experience, world credibility (Reza is well educated, well traveled and knows a shitload of world leaders and politicians) and young Reza is the guy to do it--he'll get the West off their backs, and allow them to continue with their nuke development program! That will be his rallying cry...

Reza has already seeded the ground, his website gets loads of hits, he sends videos into Iran that tell the younger generation, the 18-45 crowd, what they want to hear...they are the largest segment of the population, and they are hungry for iPods, snazzy western clothing, and a bit of hand holding in public.

God help us all if this is the way they try to play it....
