William F. Buckley to Katherine Harris: QUIT!!!
WASHINGTON - National Review, the conservative magazine, is calling for Katherine Harris to take herself out of the race for U.S. Senate in Florida "for the good of her party and for the good of her own reputation."

In an unsigned editorial that reflects the view of its editors, the magazine says the embattled Republican can't defeat incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, but that there's still time for another GOP candidate to get in the race against the Democrat the magazine calls a "colorless career politician."

The editorial, posted early Monday on the magazine's Web site, is only the latest in a series of body blows to the former Florida elections chief's campaign, which has suffered a staffing revolt, fundraising woes and poor polling.

"Harris believes she has a legitimate chance against Nelson," the editorial reads. "Her belief is almost surely mistaken."

Harris responded in the form of an open letter to magazine founder William F. Buckley Jr., saying she was "disappointed in the short-sighted editorial" and that she "will be the next senator from Florida." She even invited Buckley to campaign with her in Florida, suggesting that "D.C. insiders" are sabotaging her Senate bid.

1. I can't help but wonder what Buckley thinks about
this political world that he help construct. I wonder, is he pleased? Feeling guilty? Is this the world that he imagined? I didn't hear him complain about Harris when she help orchestrate the Coup of 2000.

8. Buckley is smart
He sees how ridiculous the GOP has become, and he can't stand it. He's also on the outs, I would imagine, since he is a conservative intellectual, and the neocons are anti-intellectual baboons.

This is interesting - it exposes the fractures within the GOP, and starts pointing to the mob mentality of the hardcore extremists. This guys are really getting closer to the models of the Ba'ath and Nazi and Fascist parties. The intellectuals and moderates get disowned because they question the motivation of the extremists. The "new intellectuals" are propagandists, who say the right thing, over and over, until people start believing it's true.

Scary.

11. It does seem as though that the new blood propagandists are
willing to cast Buckley and Will under the bus because they are not always lock step with big brother. It is interesting how the "conservative thinkers" can and have been disparaged by their own.

2. Oh Bill, have you no compassion?
Katherine is the lovely face of the grand old party. You should go to Florida and campaign for her. All "conservatives" should get behind this champion of the republican party. She gave the election to bush in 2000 and now you are talking bad of her. I'm heartbroken.

3. That plea should also be made to George Bush,
if they truly want what's good for the Republican Party.

And Frist.
And Hastert.
And Sensenbrenner.
And Santorum.
And _______________.

(...you get the idea, just fill in the
blank with your favorite Repuke. "ALL" is
also an acceptable choice.)

4. Awe-inspiring isn't it? I mean the loyalty they have for each other...
On the one hand, they've used her up like a dishrag and tossed her away. On the other hand, considering the wreckage of our democracy she helped bring about, it couldn't happen to a nicer person.

Pass the butter, willya?

6. Come on Katherine, don't listen. What does he know?

Go ahead and spend all of Daddy's money right up to the general election.

Then when Nelson wins you can sit down and write a nice book on how your GOP friends shafted you and the real truth behind the Y2K election. You go girl.

12. Buckley needs to STFU!!!
She MUST stay in the race until May 12, so they cannot field another candidate.

We'll save a BUNDLE in DNC dough, and be able to shift it to tough races.

Floridians, call KittyKat and urge her to KEEP FIGHTING for FLORIDA!!!!!

13. The thing I find striking about this Harris situation...
Is that the Bushies have met their match in hubris and having a sense of entitlement in Katherine Harris, and they are not happy about it. I find it very amusing.
