Lieberman Considers All Options

Won't Rule Out Running As An Independent
April 11, 2006
By MARK PAZNIOKAS, Courant Staff Writer

Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman refused Monday to rule out an independent candidacy if he loses the Democratic nomination, saying his re-election to a fourth term is too important for Connecticut.

"The definitive answer is that I am not foreclosing the option," Lieberman said. "If I wanted to run as an independent I would do it today. I don't. I am a Democrat. I want to run as a Democrat."

4. Guys. Joe is going to easily beat Lamont in the primary.
Very few people in Connecticut even know who Lamont is.

11. Why would he ever come out and say he would run as an Independent if
he had it in the bag? No, Joementum is a bit worried and rightfully so. Hopefully sites like DU will rally enough people to change the equation. Anyone can help Ned get the resources he needs to defeat Joe. If you want to take a look at Ned Lamont, here is his web site:

12. if so why is Lieberman saying this? He seems to threatening
the CT democratic party that if he doesn't get the nod he'll make sure the seat goes GOP. That's not the action of a man sure of victory - that's the actions of a man who's internal polling numbers stink and are getting worse.

Also people who vote in a primary are more likely to be more activist than the run of the mill party member - and given the level of loathing Lieberman arouses among the progressive wing of the democratic party - he's gotta be worried. There are people who are willing to drag themselves by their jaws over broken glass to vote him out. He doesn't have that kind of passion on his side. He touts that the Republicans like him, isn't a good thing during a primary. Add to that his enthusiastic and unworldly support of the Iraqi disaster, his silly sanctimonious positions on video games and music and that horrible statement he made about rape victims at a catholic hospital just taking cabs to another hospital to get emergency birth control and you have a man with an absolute political tin ear. Add this "Well maybe I'll stab you in the back if I don't get the nod" dance he just did (nobody likes a turncoat) and I figure Lamont must be in the high 40's by in in the polls.

14. All options that will hurt the Dems...
LIEberman never mentions the ONLY option that is intellectually & morally honest-----to run as a republican.

HE HAS NEVER BEEN ON OUR SIDE.
