Your vision of the future?
Edited on Tue Apr-11-06 01:40 PM by fiziwig
Here's mine in a nutshell. How do you see the world 100 years from now?

The American flag now shows 12 stars for the 12 remaining states: WA, OR, ID, MT, WY, ND, SD, NE, MN, IA, WI, MI. Everything south of that now belongs to Mexico. Europe is finally united, and called Eurabia and is entirely under Sharia law. English is counted among the languages in danger of extinction being spoken only in that narrow band of US states, and in a few isolated inland regions of the Chinese satelite state formerly called Australia. China now include what used to be called India and all of southeast Asia and Indonesia as well.

1. 100 years from now...
1) We have a 51st state.

2) The Middle East has had several border changes.

3) Europe is a shadow of its former self economically and politically.

4) The greatest military issues revolve around technological applications.

5) Normal air travel still exists for shorter domestic travel needs, but space travel is a normal option for overseas travel, particularly to places like Australia.

2. The Mei Gwo, now a deragatory term for what was once "American"...
...,report to work on time just like brave Chinese.

On time is oh-four-thirty. Mei Gwo work better with Chinese hands to guide them. Men happy. Women happy. Children happy.

Iron rice bowls, everyone with place to live. No money for food? No food even with money? China not so foolish. Rebuild farms, bring food. Share bounty with Mei Gwo who work to become full citizens.

No bullets needed in war of ideas. Chinese work hard and make money. Mei Gwo sell everything: Chinese buy everything. Mei Gwo poison land: Chinese rebuild and clean. Mei Gwo buy tanks! Mei Gwo buy airplanes! China lend money, Mei Gwo borrow! Borrow, borrow, borrow!

Mei Gwo not stupid, just ignorant. When Mei Gwo have no money to buy food, China shares bounty of food. When Mei Gwo have no more good ideas, China shares bounty of thought.

Who greater: Man with laptop and no food or food and no laptop?

No bullets in this war. Mei Gwo too poor, surrounded by a world sold to them by Chinese.

Correction, one bullet: Rice grain. Mei Gwo still borrow! Borrow, borrow, borrow! They borrow against their children, just like they always did.

One day they will realize, but not today.

3. Future
Twenty-five to forty per cent of the population will live in gated communities. The rest will wait outside the gates for jobs for those inside.

5. Famin, war and disease will have wiped out half of the ....
earth's population. Global warming will have sent the rest of the "civilized" world underground. Petroleum and coal for fuel will be a thing of the past. Socialism will thrive, because staples will become much too precious of commodities. Capitalism will no longer be anything that Americans strive for, but corporations will determine societies needs and values. We will no longer live in a democracy. I can see it as more like a "borg collective."

8.  Okay, I'll bite
100 years from now. Europe is once again rebuilding after the Great Arabian War. The Middle East is a sheet of nuclear glass. Africa has returned to its natural state.

Three-quarters of the world's population has been decimated by AIDS and other antibiotic-resistant bacterias and mutated virus. The rest have downsized to hand-to-mouth existance. Christian fundamentalists must worship underground because the rest of the world has had it with them. Pagan faiths are thriving, but becoming organized and powerful. Tom Cruise is getting married again and is still in the closet. All stores are now called "WalMarts" even though the original corporation went bust in the mid 2000's when the Democrats finally got a candidate in the White House (Prince Michael Jackson) at the same time they controlled the Congress. The Supreme Court is made up of nine black women and are referred to as..."The Supremes." Abortion is a thing of the past. The population is so low that every pregnancy (hard to achieve given the depleted uranium problem) is celebrated. Barbara Bush is still with us and it is discovered she actually died in the 1990's and is a zombie. The United States has divided itself into zones that dovetail with folks' sexual orientation or marital arrangement. Polygamy is legal and the age of consent has been lowered to 12 in order to take advantage of youthful female fertility. Plastic is illegal, but there is healthy black market of Tupperware coming out of South America.

And I'm still rocking on the front porch.

12. Things are going great
Sure there are problems, there are always problems, but technological know-how and good old fashioned common sense have lead to what we would consider a golden age. On the other hands, there is constent debate on the Mind Scanning forums about how great the old days were and how Humanity is doomed.

And Simpsons just signed up through the 120th season.
