Why "abstinence only" makes sense
A policy of "abstinence only" requires only administrative duties.
It is free money that can be given to your wife's good-for-nothing brother or nephew. All he has to do is say "Don't Fuck" to the kids. They giggle and fuck anyway, but who really cares, said relative has a paycheck and is out of your pocket.
Now, to require REAL SEXUAL EDUCATION, it takes administrative costs, this is true, but also requires condoms, birth control pills, AIDS testing and information, Hepatitis testing and information, STD treatment and information--and really cuts into the paycheck of the croneys. Now, we surely can't have that in George Bush's America, can we?

2. Giving information about any subject is
difficult for members of bush's base. You do have a good point. Just don't fuck. Okay let me get my money now. Not only is there little effort needed for this program but it is a failure. The little kiddies do everything but fuck, then go to sunday school and learn why they should hate homosexuals and liberals (presented to them in a tax exempt manner.) Persecution my ass.

I disagree about the motive
A very strong aspect of "abstinence only" programs is to promote the Talibangelicals' religious doctrine of "sex is evil." Get `em while they're young, and you have their minds for life.

5. One only needs to look at Bush's daughters and his past
to realize he doesn't give a flip about abstinence.
It is a bone to give to the fundies for sure--but also requires very little governmental oversight and is money in the pocket without any spent.
That is what Bush cares about. Rewards.

4. If you provide birth control, condoms and testing/treatment then
they fear is it might promote sex for fun.
We shouldn't enjoy anything associated with sex. Or so the Christian right wing wants us to believe.

I would like someone to explain to me, that if God did not want us to enjoy sex, why then is the genital region contain more sensory points than any other part of the body?

7. Somehow I don't think they do
But you know what?
I didn't either when I was their age. Women have every right to experience sex because truly, if a guy isn't good in the sack--he isn't worth marrying (unless he is willing to learn). It's a dealbreaker.

11. The guy behind "The Silver Ring Thing"(*) admitted to the BBC that it's
a means by which to preach fundamentalist Christianity to children (with federal funding) because this generation will have to deal with Jesus coming back.

But I agree with you too.

(*)I'm never sure how widely known this particular organization is, but basically teenagers pledge to abstain from sex until marriage. They get a ring which they wear until their wedding day to symbolise this chastity.
