electronic vote is a gift to organized crime
In countries with an heavy presence of organized crime, it is absolutely impossible to vote at home using internet or any other technology. Infact the control of the vote by the crime would be complete. If I close my eyes for a few seconds I already see gangsters entering people homes and sitting behind the computer checking "de visu" each and any vote given there. But such a physical presence it is not even necessary since it would be enough for the "bosses" to pretend from their subdues the video tape recording their voting at home.

So if we in Italy (but I know many other countries with the same problem) insist in voting electronicaly, we CAN'T use any remote system, but we MUST place computers in the usual public polling station.

1. It is a gift to them. Look what the Bush family has accomplished.
We need to get rid of the machines altogether. They are insecure -- which is why BushCo is foisting them on our whole country.

3. Stop computerized Voting Machines
I agree. No matter what the initial monetary cost (look at the cost this country has endured as a result of corrupt elections: the war, loss of civil liberties...)we need to take back control of our elections, and the only way we an do that is to go back to hand marked paper ballots and hand counts. At a minimum, we can fully hand count all federal elections and state wide elections and then count the other races with a machine (other than one owned and operated by Diebold, ES&S, et al.)and then institute a mandatory 5% hand count of a few randomly selected races. Or we can compromise even further, and hand count all federal races, and do mandatory 5% "audits" on state wide races, and a few randomly selected minor state races. We can do this, we just need to open our minds to the possiblity. We must have transparency and verifiability in our elections. Check out this organization which has a call to action to work towards hand counts in 2008. http://www.tikkun.org/magazine/specials/article.2006-04-10.1693298872

5. Stop cojmputerized voting machines
Hello, thanks for the welcome.

My biggest fear is that we are going to have to settle for Diebold/ES&S, et al. machines with half-baked audits that protect against nothing but give voters a false sense of security. The corruption will continue so long as we use these machines. It infuriates me that election officials seem to think that it is no big deal that the machines we do use don't even meet the minimum standards of security for the computer industry.

2. And in the U.S., a vote by computers in polling stations is a gift to ...
organized crime known as the Republican Party.
