3. Dude, the guy is as whacked out as they get. However, he loves oil fields
loves them.

He isn't going to nuke oil. Hello. He might giggle at the thought of weapons that will kill every indigenous man woman and child in the country; but he isn't going to harm one precious drop of oil.

6. Things change.
That is the case now. In a month or two, developments could warrant China and Russia changing their stance.

This administration has proven time and again that they are willing to shape events to get what they want.

So while now that seems totally ridiculous, another terror attack here in the U.S. would make that totally plausible.

Unfortunately, iI think they were corresct.

9. Hey, I have been scared of this mofo since the day I realized that some-
thing had gone wrong with the "election."

And, I agree. The little jerkwit might bomb some of Iran's stuff. But, it won't be nuclear---it will be "strategic strikes."

However, screaming "nuke" on DU is just wrong at this point in the game.

11. We aren't doing the screaming; Seymour Hersh is.
And he is usually right about the stuff he investigates. If Hersh said the Bushies are talking about using tactical nukes on Iran, I believe him. Seems conventional weapons aren't powerful enough to last through the hardened, underground bunkers where the Iranians allegedly keep their nukes, so ony our nukes can do it. It doesn't mean they'll actually do it, but the fact that they're even considering it is scary enough.

and saw his soul.

I was going to mention Russia in my OP...but, honestly....I don't think DUers understand that while colonizing Iraq was good for the oil business and Hallyburtin, touching Iran is stupid, stupid, stupid.

This administration will get their little loudmouth asses kicked so damned hard they won't be able to think straight.

21. Since when has the absurdity of a situation ever stopped them?
Its going to happen. Its going to happen because these assholes truly believe that they are the Masters of the Universe and that they will survive whatever the aftermath will be. You cannot, not now, not ever, assume that these people are dealing with human reality, they simply do not care. And they have their itchy fingers on the trigger. Hersh is writing what the saner heads at the Pentagon want us to know. Just because it doesn't make sense does not mean it will not be done, with the track record of these folks, I say that it means its a certainty. And we are foolish to think otherwise.

12. China will be all over us with what?
What are they going to do? Launch their nukes? The world will have a big upset and then shrug it off - that is the Bush equation, and I am not sure it is wrong. (Attacking Iran is wrong - conventional or nuclear, and the first strike use of nuclear weapons is an abomination, but I am not sure at all that they won't get away with it.)

20. So China is going to collapse their own economy
causing serious domestic unrest, perhaps causing the end of the communist regime, because we blew up iran and killed 1,000,000 non-chinese people?

From your original post it seemed that you thought that China had a military option here, they don't. They do have an economic option but it would be a disaster for them, so that isn't really an option either.

27. So now you are back to the military option.
Ok. Sort of hard to have a discussion on this issue as you keep shifting your stance. Where are they going to attack us? They don't have a navy capable of surviving against our pacific fleet, so the whole taiwan thing is out. I suppose they could restart the korean war, but we would just go nuclear over that. It is a rather long march from China to Iraq. So where exactly are they going to march their huge army against us?

34. As will China's economy.
I don't think the Chinese are about to wreck their own economy to bring down ours in order to protest our abomination against Iran. I wish they could, I sincerely wish the OP was correct and that there was some power balance as we had in the cold war that prevented idiocy like we have embarked on, but there isn't. That is the grim reality we are faced with. Nobody is going to save us from our messianic idiots, we have to do this ourselves.

18. We realize that. We just assume Bush doesn't care.
slightly off topic but "like a fucking duck on a junebug"?? Never heard that one before!

This is the administration that truly believed Iraq would greet us as great liberators. The PNAC believes American "values" and Democracy is craved by people all over the world...never mind attempting to understand their history and culture. We all knew civil war was going to happen once Saddam was gone too but they didn't care.

I just assumed this was all about oil and profits but now I'm starting to buy into the nutty end of times theory.

22. That's a Southern expression, I guess!
That said, this administration doesn't believe any of that horseshit. They believe in controlling energy supplies, and profits.

Personally, I think that horseshit PNAC website is a bunch of goddamned propaganda designed to rile up the patriotic masses who have been stuffing themselves on hotdogs and apple pies for so damned long that the blood hasn't flowed to their brains in years.

As far as Shrubbie, and his "end times" crap...I don't believe that man has stepped foot into a church for anything other than a photo op in years. He's about as Christian as Billy Graham is muslim. It's just more propaganda whacked out crap.

Now, this administration wants to control Iran's oil supply....but, I seriously doubt they will do anything to harm it.

19. Here is why...
If he wants to use a military strike to take out the Iranian nuclear facilities, he HAS to use nukes. Failing a nuclear strike, his only other option would be to seize the sites via an invasion. So its start a full on ground war, or use nuke bunker busters. The US military is streched too thin to start another ground war, so the only other option is an air strike with nuke bunker busters.

Now all of a sudden, the US military is carrying out tests of 700 ton bombs? Bombs that can not physically be delivered to a targetted bunker, BY ANY MEANS?

THAT is why people think Bush is going to nuke Iran.

25. What 'we guys' realize is of no concern to Bush
Bush apparently is wholeheartedly convinced his actions are his Divine Destiny.

For what it's worth, I think Bush is already in the process of setting up Iran to a weakened state very similar to Iraq. Iraq was an easy target on all fronts and there really hasn't been a focus of how the U.S. was pounding it in the run up. Iraqi Air Force? Already taken out of pre-invasion. Iraqi military? Promises made to them with leaflet drops pre-invasion. That's not to take anything away from our guys and gals on the ground. In fact, the prep allowed the perception of Iraqi's rolling over and running away much easier for the inbed (vs. imbed) cameras.

The last I heard/read, Iraq made a public statement that it would not fight Iran if the U.S. invaded or attacked. Then again, the Iraqi 'Leaders' are still playing musical chairs.

The whole thing is a complete disaster. Someone else is required to clean up, and Bush will step forward to accept credit for his vision as he receives accolades from the neocons.

they will not get involved and certainly won't retaliate against us militarily. Bushco is just crazy enough to do such a thing while the rest of the world looks on in disbelief. There are too many signs that point to action than not; we know they make decisions without considering the consequences.
