Is this "nuke Iran" thing a ploy to sell us another war?
This totally just came to me. It seems infinitely insane to use nuclear weapons against Iran, although I would certainly not put it past *. Nothing is too insane or stupid for this administration and I really think they want to either kill us all or are just too wrapped up in their clubhouse PNAC childishness to look at reality.

That being said, I wonder if perhaps the plan isn't to actually use nukes against Iran, but let us get afraid that they are going to. Then, when they attack using conventional weapons, they're hoping we'll all be relieved and not as outraged at being dragged into another war of choice because at least they didn't use nukes.

Just another idea in my endless quest to try to make sense of all these bat-shit crazy people running our government.

1. I think that's highly likely!
This insane group in the white house is dead set on invading most middle eastern countries. I think their goal is to turn them all over to their buddies in Saudi Arabia...who in turn will sell bushco oil for cheap so they can sell it to us for huge profits.

2. Yes, I had the same thought yesterday.
Scare us with nukes so when they drop conventional bombs we're relieved.

Not gonna work, though.

4. It's like 12 year old politics and manipulation.
Truly, the person who pointed out that PNAC sounds like it was made up in a treehouse really had them pegged. These people are like immature kids who have read way too many bad comic books or something. Evil, hateful, ignorant children.

3. No. I believe it's a way he can cause the price of oil to skyrocket
Without actually having to invade Iran.

5. LBJ used similar tactics during Vietnam.
News would be "leaked" that he was planning to send 100,000 more troops to Vietnam. Then he would assure the public it was "nonsense" and send "only" 50,000 and everyone would breath a sigh of relief.

I wouldn't be in the least surprised if the boy Fuhrer and his cronies aren't using the same tactic.

11. They don't have any new ideas.
I didn't know that about LBJ. I bet you're right -- they're just "borrowing" a page from his playbook.

6. Actually, I think that he's foaming at the mouth to attack Iran
And more sensible people keep bringing up the fact that we simply don't have the manpower to pull off such a feat. And his answer to that is nuclear weapons.

And yes, I think he is batshit crazy enough to do it.

8. I'd like to see them try to invade Iran
Given the shitstorm that's resulted from the 'liberation' of Iraq, where the population actually hated their leader, imagine how much worse it's going to be trying to suppress a population that stongly supports their leaders. The insurrection will start from minute one and won't be carried out by 'insurgents' but by the whole population.

It would be, to coin a phrase, the mother of all nightmares.

15. Except it's our (collective) kids who'll be in the way
If it were the neocons and the young Repubs and all the other hate-filled warmongerers who were leading the charge, then, yes, I'd love to see them fed into the meat grinder that an invasion of Iran would become.

But it's not. It would be the current military servicemen and -women who would feel the brunt of it. It would be an unsustainable conflict without continuing to feed masses of soldiers into the machine. I'm reminded (sadly) of how Germany was mostly left with the elderly and children after WWII because all the able-bodied had gone off to war.

So, no, I don't want to see them invade Iran.

13. I think a lot of folks are guessing that's the plan...
Feed Sy Hersh a "we're really going to nuke them" story, give him a megaphone to spread it far and wide, then attack with conventional air strikes.

What's really scary is what comes next. Easy to imagine lots of credible escalation scenarios that culminate in full scale Mideast war.

so now they're trying to make us afraid of ourselves. Seems logical, right?

17. It could be part of a greater ploy. Keep 'em scared deal. Easier to rule
that way. Immigration thing is for the "mark" that is approaching. Everyone must be identifiable and trackable. Easier to control that way also. Fun times ahead. Look to the future, fight until the end.
