This is kind of scary
http://www.mexica-movement.org/granmarcha.htm

(Snip)
MEXICANS AND "CENTRAL AMERICANS"
ARE PART OF THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE
OF THIS CONTINENT!

WE ARE NOT FOREIGNERS TO THIS CONTINENT!
WE ARE NOT FOREIGNERS ON OUR OWN LAND!
WE ARE NOT ILLEGAL
ON ANY PART OF OUR CONTINENT!

THE ONLY ILLEGALS ON THIS CONTINENT
ARE THE CRIMINAL EUROPEANS
WHO HAVE INVADED OUR CONTINENT
FROM 1492 TO THE PRESENT DAY

IT IS NOT RACIST
to confront and resist
white racism!

If feels more like a war than it does a "movement"

1. Reminds me of "The Jungle" by Sinclair
The "boss men" just love it when we fight "with each other" over the few jobs that will be left after everything having to do with manufacturing is sent to China. :puke:

4. That's exactly what I think all this really is....
Why, if the peasants are fighting among themselves they're going to be too busy to squint at the castle on the hill, ne?

2. There is a lot of truth in that...
However, Mexicans are mostly of mixed ancestry, which means they are also part of the invading Europeans as well....

5. And it pretty much sounds like student rhetoric. I don't feel threatened
Edited on Tue Apr-11-06 06:07 AM by Hekate
Chicano/a college students stretching their political wings have talked like that for 30 years. Then they grow up and run for public office and moderate their tone. (That being said, I have not visited the website in question. It may be as bad as stated.)

Nonetheless there's truth in the rhetoric, some of which stems from the ignorance of the Anglo majority who fail to recognize that huge chunks of the US really did belong to Mexico and/or the Spaniards at one time, including all of California.

I take great hope in the immensity and peacefulness of the demonstrations. These people are part of the fiber of our nation, doing what immigrants have always done, which is to work at lowly jobs and send their kids to school in hopes of a better future.

They have also been political pawns on both sides of the border for generations, suffering mostly quietly. It took the current level of Washington DC stupidity to wake a sleeping giant.

I think the thing that has me awestruck is that in addition to the peacefulness and sheer numbers who have turned out, is that they are displaying more trust in the future of the US than I have felt in over 5 years.

3. I think it's rather ill advised, frankly
If you look at the website, there is a nod to nonviolence, but the rest of it is pretty aggressive. Plus, what they say about their rights to the entire continent might be challenged by the native peoples of this good sized nation. And playing the race card is just NOT helpful, when there are plenty of people of European ancestry who acknowledge that they have a point--you don't hold the door open, ignore the behavior, for years and years, and then, when the economy gets a bit shirty and you need those jobs for the poor US born folk, turn them out without a by-your-leave, when they have US born kids, and have built a life here, with tacit approval. And all the while, the business owners, with their CEOs getting bigger and bigger paychecks, and the upperclass nouveau riche with the nanny, cook and gardner, are the ones who have benefitted from their labor--without any consequences whatsoever.

6. Sounds like the Irish and English troubles all over. Problem
That you just can not pack up millions of people and send them back. There is no back to go to. You have to take the problem as it is not as you would like it to be or how it should have been. Just what date would any one like to start the returns in? With that thinking we would all have to be sent back to Africa. The crazy people who keep telling us this a white Christian country seem to for get the Indians who them self came from some place else, once. People should be able to go where they wish with some order in all that.

Jup... we all came from Northern Africa somewhere... that's where the real Adams and Eves were born.
And by the way, Iran/Iraq was long referd to as the cradle of civilication.

8. It's not about Mexicans, Indians, Irish or Jews.
The illegal immigration situation is about being a nation, not just a well spring of wealth. If persons want to immigrate legally and hence vote, pay into public programs and become loyal citizens I have no problem with them regardless of race, religion or which end they open their eggs on. If they want to sneak in, acquire wealth and send it back to the country they are loyal citizens of I have a big problem with that.

Either "annex" Mexico or make the Mexicans stop stealing our resource and heritage. I haven't seen much of a problem with "Illegal Canadians" for some reason.

11. If the US and other nations would stop sucking the wealth out of Mexico
and enabling the ongoing corruption of its government then the poor people would have no need to steal into our country.

9. The peasant uprising is spreading northward
:)

The 1% that controls the wealth in all of America - north, central, south - must be a bit shaken.

12. That's pretty ridiculous
Since when is a continent one country? It's a landmass, that's all.

13. If you include that part that says: NON-VIOLENCE IS THE ANSWER
It sounds a lot less like a war.
