16.  You Go Boy
Ted’s opening remarks are in your face, no holds barred.

He is angry over spying, torturing, discrimination against Blacks, and calling Alito out on his possible support of wanton executive power, lack of any writings supporting Blacks complaints of discrimination in the workplace, and questions his credibility.

You can watch hearings on CNN.com (pipeline)

18. Help out - sign one of the email petitions to your Senators at Congress.or
Judge Alito’s record makes clear that he would work to dismantle the wall of separation between church and state and to open the door to majority rule on religious matters. Replacing Justice Sandra Day O’Connor with Judge Alito would fundamentally alter First Amendment law and immediately put at risk many of the crucial protections for religious minorities that the Supreme Court has recognized and consistently enforced during the past sixty years. Judge Alito’s judicial philosophy, particularly in how it relates to the Establishment Clause, would be disastrous for religious liberty and the protection of religious minorities.

22. TedKennedy.com community - more than 150,000 supporters
What a year it has been. As we get ready now to kick off 2006, I want to thank you for being part of the TedKennedy.com community.

When the campaign team and I first discussed the potential of an online advocacy program earlier this year, we had no idea how large and influential this community would become. In the few months since our first email, its numbers have soared from less than 10,000 to more than 150,000.

The reason is clear. We tackle important problems facing our nation, and do our best to raise awareness among our fellow citizens and create change.

http://www.tedkennedy.com/

Together, we will build on our track record of success.

Remember William Myers? In April and May our community warned thousands of people about the Administration's ideological nomination to the federal court, and massive public pressure prevented this extreme nominee from becoming a federal judge.

Remember the Downing Street Memos? Our community sounded the alarm last summer about the Administration's handling of pre-war intelligence as soon as these deeply troubling documents surfaced. Together, we spread news of the DSM to thousands -- and many of them joined us in demanding answers from the Administration about its conduct on the war in Iraq and its plan for success there.

But we didn't stop there. More than 70,000 people have signed a powerful petition demanding that the White House release critical documents needed by the current Senate investigation into pre-war intelligence. Our constant activism fuels the growth and power of our community -- and brings valuable attention to issues that matter a great deal to our country. But this activity takes resources. You can make 2006 even more successful by contributing to our effort.

Why not filibuster? We have nothing to lose. Where is our spine? Are the Dems in the Senate willing to go all the way with their principles? I am afraid they will do the usual, go along to get along.

34. Thats how i see it.
Use the filibuster now! Simply because if the repukes go "nuclear" they will be cutting of their own nose to spite their face, seeing how they will surely go down this year. I think the repukes know that they are in serious hot water politically and cannot count on being the majority for long, hence i doubt they would go nuclear. But hey, these are the neocons, and we all know they are not about smart decisions. At any rate let them use the nuclear option, it will only come back to bite them, and very soon i might add.

36. dumb question, but if they go nuclear, then what?
i have heard a few different things regarding this. don't the dems then have the option to close down the senate? or do i have my facts wrong? because the way i see it, all this repub congress has done is f**k things up. they haven't done any good. so if the dems shut the place down (and i know they wouldn't, but just hypothetically speaking) then what? the preznit takes all the power? oh wait, he already did that!

37. The complaints that the Dems don't have an issue
is a serious issue. Our Dems representing us are playing nice and all I hear from Repubs and even other about Kerry is he did not stand up for us. I don't even want to get into the Kerry issue, really, but that is what the media use successfully. A filibuster would get the attention of the nation. Then the media would have to talk about it, hey, the Dems are rearing up would be the comments and then they would spends days hammering the dems for how wrong they were, but, at least it would get the conversation going. Geez do we have issues and our reps need to earn their pay and quit being politically correct.

Judicial Activism vs. Judicial Restraint

Lovely that they've picked up the Radical Right's talking points/framing!

There activists aren't activists...they are restrained. YEAH RIGHT. That's why it's THOMAS and SCALIA have overturned more acts of Congress than anyone else sitting on the high court.

Thank gawd that old ladies can not produce like old men can. They wouldn't even be having this discussion. I am an old lady. This man makes no sense when it comes to a woman's rights "that fetus that has downs syndrome has as much right to life as anyone." Guess the family that must care for this child, the mother that is not able to get a job because she must care for this special child, the child that must deal with it's disability, who is to decide what is right? Those like Coburn or those that don't think like Coburn/Alito/Hatch. Of course they will not vote for Federal funds to care for these special people!
