WTF? U.S. Says Venezuela Complicit in Attack
WASHINGTON - The State Department accused Caracas city officials of complicity Friday in an attack on the car of U.S. Ambassador William Brownfield in the Venezuelan capital.

Undersecretary of State Nicholas Burns summoned Venezuelan Ambassador Bernardo Alvarez to the State Department and told him that Venezuela was in violation of an international treaty that requires the host countries to ensure the safety of foreign diplomats, department spokesman Sean McCormack said.

The incident "clearly was condoned by the local government," McCormack said.

Pro-government activists bombarded Brownfield's car with fruit and vegetables and a group of motorcyclists chased the convoy, at times pummeling the vehicles with their fists.

5. My head. It's officially exploding.
So people throwing fruits and vegetables at a US diplomat is a vicious attack and a failure by the host government to protect the diplomat.

But terrorists blowing up the entire UN delegation in Baghdad while the US is officially responsible for security is .... anyone? anyone?

9. Um yeah the Venezuelans are required to gun their people down like dogs
in the street to prevent them hitting the diplomat's car with fruits and veggies.

OK.

11. Just like Iraq, they expect flowers. Instead they got tomatoes.
In Iraq they got, and are still getting, bombs.

12. Ooooh, such a scary headline. Pity many probably don't take time
to read beyond the headlines. I'm sure the administration wouldn't want to MISLEAD anyone, of course.

The people probably knew who the cargo was in there, a man with a very ugly association with American mischief in Latin America.

He'd be easy to identify.

14. Make no mistake about it
Before Bush steps down, he will invade both Iran and Venezuela in the name of "spreading Democracy." Just pay no attention to the tankers stealing the oil from those countries like we are doing to Iraq right now.

15. Burns needs
a refresher course in US-Venezuelan relations. Chavez was 6 or 7 years old when I lived in Venezuela.
Americans were paid "hazardous assignment" bonuses for a reason. We had our own armed patrols guarding our neighborhood at night - because, as Americans, we were so well-loved.

16. If I were Señor Alvarez, I would tell the State Dept.
to recall Mr. Brownpile and send somebody else. We're into recycling, anyway.

Re: the photo of Brown posted below: doesn't he look hideous? With his dyed hair, sweaty face, and notice the photo next to him. He's got big bags both on top and under his eyes. I guess he doesn't sleep well at night.
