Edited on Sat Apr-08-06 09:21 AM by NNN0LHI
Why did Bush let Fitzgerald investigate this all this time if he thinks what he did was perfectly legal?

Why hasn't the media been asking this logical question?

Lou Dobbs was complaining about what Fitzgerald was doing to his dear friend Judith Miller by keeping her in jail. It wasn't Fitzgerald who was doing anything to Miller after all. It was Bush who caused all this because he was like a little kid hiding under his bed all this time.

Why didn't Lou mention that?

Dobbs was also complaining how long Fitzgerald was taking on his investigation. Well now we find out that wasn't Fitzgerald's fault either. It was Bush's fault.

All Bush had to do was fess up to what he says he did "legally" years ago as he is doing now and this would have all been avoided. Right?

Edited on Sat Apr-08-06 09:13 AM by Zen Democrat
Because ... Valerie Plame was a NOC and 10 years in the hoosegow didn't look appealing. I keep hearing that there's nothing in Fitzgerald's court filing that says Libby testified that Bush leaked Plame, as if that's exculpatory. But Fitzgerald was not laying out his entire case, just making the point that the administration was burning for revenge on Joe Wilson - and that Libby testified falsely that he had "forgotten the facts due to being consumed by other matters" - because it looks like the White House was completely consumed with destroying Joe Wilson. That's my take.

are feverishly working up a response to your on the mark question. No doubt they will be able to explain it all away soon, and most likely the bad guy will be a liberal or a democrat or most likely Clinton.

If a Seaman Apprentice in the admin department left a secret message unattended for two minutes he would be court martialed. Such accountability is not part of the gop modus operandi; nor for their base.

10. The media et al are completely ignoring the fact Bush LIED about leaking!
He said several times that he wanted to know who had leaked and he would then deal with the person....ALL THE WHILE IT WAS HE, HIMSELF, GEORGE BUSH who was the leaker and he was hiding that fact....If not criminal, that is at the very least extremely dishonest and unethical!

neither were cheney or gonzales. It is perjury to lie under oath, OOJ to lie to a federal prosecuter. The charge is equally bad either way as far as I can tell.

19. John Dean has a new (long ) article from yesterday-thinks this is serious

The Meaning of Libby's Revelations - and Their Possible Consequences

....Libby's statements regarding the President are clearly hearsay; he was repeating to the grand jury what he claims Cheney told him. Accordingly, Bush is probably still protected by Cheney.

Presumably, Patrick Fitzgerald asked both Bush and Cheney about their actions when he interviewed them. But what they said, has yet to be revealed. If Cheney lied to protect himself, in the interviews, then he could also have lied to protect the President. Or Cheney could have opted to take the fall, and leave the President out of it.

Many commentators are dismissing this situation as run-of-the-mill presidential/vice presidential politics. But I believe it is more serious.

From a political perspective, separate from the illegality, there is the hypocrisy: The Bush Administration has prosecuted and sent to jail officials who leaked far less serious information - as I discussed in detail in a prior column. It is actively, and currently, threatening to prosecute others who have leaked information about the president's illegal electronic surveillance of Americans.
