Ex-aide: Senator threatened my life
ALBANY State Sen. Ada Smith pleaded not guilty Thursday to a charge that she assaulted a former employee, who claimed the senator threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the alleged attack.

Smith, 60, a Queens Democrat, was arraigned on a misdemeanor charge of third-degree assault in Albany City Court. The charge stemmed from an allegation by Smith's one-time aide, Jennifer C. Jackson, 41, of Albany that the senator threw hot coffee in her face and pulled off her hairpiece last month, injuring her eyes, neck and shoulder.

In a statement to State Police, Jackson said Smith told her: "If you tell anyone what happened in this office, I will (expletive) kill you."

"I was afraid because of her threat to kill me, and because Senator Smith knows where I live," Jackson said in her statement.
