This is how the leak fiasco has a good chance of playing out....

Cheney will admit that he said "The President authorized disclosure" even though Bush* didn't.

Bush gets to claim plausible deniability and "fires" the leaker as previously promised.

Since it's "ALL Cheney's fault!", Bush* is absolved of ANY wrongdoing.

McCain replaces Cheney with ample time to stump before the midterms.

Cheney returns to Halliburton to oversee those juicy war contracts.

McCain continues boot-licking to become the heir apparent to the WH throne in 08.

And they all live happily-ever-after. :sarcasm:

6. Two myths:

Myth #1: Hillary is the front-runner for 2008.
Hillary isn't running (yet) so she cannot be the front runner.

Myth #2: If Cheney resigns, ChimpCo will appoint McCain as Veep.
Is there any indication in ChimpCo's previous actions which would let somebody think that they would appoint anybody but another total lunatic for Veep to replace Cheney? Is there any indication what-so-ever that ChimpCo would appoint a guy as Veep who has a reputation of "going off the script" and of being a "loose cannon"?

I can't see anything in ChimpCo's previous behavior that would indicate that they'd appoint anybody but another lunatic right winger. Somebody like Brownback, only it can't be Brownback because Governor Sebelius would then appoint a Dem to replace him.

Also, there's this problem. If ChimpCo appoints McCain as Veep, Governor Napolitano gets to appoint his successor which will most certainly be a Democrat.

I personally think the Pugs are going to lose the Senate but the Mayberry Machiavellis have never been in touch with reality and are likely to believe they can overcome the current public sentiment of outrage and disgust.

They would *never* give a Dem governor a Senate appointment. Furthermore, nothing they've done in the past five years shows any tendency to compromise on anything, let alone letting a Senate seat slip away from them.

If Cheney leaves, they will appoint a governor from a safe state, a House member from a safe district, or a Senator from a state with a Republican governor. The appointee will be a right winger, slightly stealthy, and would be a likely front runner in 2008 against Hillary.

My take? Let the Repugs continue to plan for a Hillary candidacy.

McCain "fills in"..and when he runs in 08, he picks Joementum as his running mate...

I can see McCain stating that he will serve only ONE term..Jebbie runs for congress and in 12, makes HIS run..
