This is it
This is the karma that hunts the GOP.

Delay forced to resign.
Abramahoff(spelling?)going to jail.

And now Libby testifying that Bush AUTHORIZED the leak that outed CIA agent Valerie Plame.

I know this may sound really crazy....but I will not be at all surprised that Bush will resign.
He can't defend this. And he will not allow impeachment proceedings. He will quit. The illegal spying is nothing compared to this outrage. It is treason. And for the president to commit treason for such petty reasons to quell any dissent for the invasion of Iraq.....well he is clearly unfit. We know that. But what we don't know is how long it will take for him to bow out....or the pressures that must be mounting in the backroom of the white house. It will happen. Soon. Very soon. Soon enough that the GOP will try to put it behind them for the upcoming elections.

If you were the GOP - how would you try to spin this scandal? It isn't a big deal because the president can declassify whatever he wants? Then why appoint a special counsel?

1. Nope.
This is the NIE leak, not Plame. Related, but distinct.

9. Waterman, the specific info that Libby gave
to Judy Miller was about Plame and that's what this whole investigation is about. Libby says he had authorization to leak info and this is what he leaked, so it IS about Plame.

Nope.

Libby also shared the NIE with Miller. This is not in question. And it is a big part of the investigation. It pays to read the court papers.

23. While I agree ...
... that the 'news' is that Libby claims that Cheney passed on pResidential authorization to him to 'leak' NIE information to Miller (et. al.?), I believe that earlier disclosures in this case indicated that Plame's identity was annotated in the NIE as well. No?

As a closely-related observation, I think it's quite interesting that Libby's selective memory of the specifics seems very convenient. I guess he wasn't "too busy" to remember what to leak to Miller ... just too busy to remember what NOT to leak, I guess.

2. In order for your premise to be true though, you must first convince
the Republicans in the House to vote for impeachment, unless and until that can be accomplished, there is no danger of him being impeached, and thus he won't resign.

it came out and how much it steamed.. and how much it smelled like Roses..

they might slip him some 'grape Kool-Aid'.. and blame it on Terra'ists
to use him as a Martyr.. but never criticize him.

11. I think Cheney will take the hit for the team
He's at 18 percent anyway. He claims the Monkey knew nothing; Monkey pardons him so the country "can move on." Deadeye can work behind the scenes, make a bundle lobbying for a year or two--he's got that sweet mansion on the Eastern Shore, an easy helo ride from Camp David.

McCain gets the VP slot...and becomes the heir apparent for the nom. The GOP saves a ton of money in the primaries, and tosses all their cash into the general election.

The trick is to time this until AFTER the NOV midterm elections. If it happens before that, and there's pardoning going down, the House AND Senate will flip to the D side--you can't cheat beyond the margin of error, otherwise there would be blood in the streets. Then Monkey's agenda, and McCain's to follow (assuming they have the balls to try to steal another election around the margins--if McCain can find a way to stay close yet distance himself at the same time and keep his numbers up) might well be toast.

13. No. Sorry.
wish it were so, but it's not. Nothing's going to change from this except that the public's trust will further erode. It's already being spun, and folks in the MSM are lapping it up.

14. Bush is too much of a pugilist to ever resign.
This is big - but more big public shift of opinion further away from bushco with those in congress defending him finding their alienation from the voting public growing further as well. The potential damage to the GOP is going to be BIG and continue to grow because they are so full of themselves and drunk with the arrogance of power that they will continue to make monumental missteps - like this. But I don't see any short term ending to bushco.

15. I don't think he'll resign.
After the election I think we'll have our majority, and bushco will realize that impeachment hearings are a certainty. I'm afraid they'll pull something as a distraction, (Iran?) to unify the public behind them or some major distraction.

19. Have Bush or Cheney testified under oath?
Just wondering. Doing so would really force the legal issue here and that's the only way you'll get them to leave office prematurely, if you haul them out in handcuffs.

20. They are all subject to criminal investigation as soon as they are gone
and can no longer suppress information.

That includes not only Bush and Cheney, but also Poppy Bush for his role in Iran Contral.

They simply cannot afford to leave voluntarily. They could ALL be prosecuted.
