Why is Katie Couric news?
It was all over the "national" news last night. Once again why are the news agencies reporting about themselves? A bubble-headed bleach blonde changes jobs. Big friggin' deal. Aren't we at war or something? Aren't there numerous corruption scandals going on in D.C.? News agencies should not be reporting on themselves. This is not journalism.

8. There's so little news of true significance in the world right now,

they are digging deep to find newsworthy items.

Now if this had happened during the Viet Nam war,

or Watergate,

or the Clinton/Lewinsky saga,

it would have likely seen little coverage. But since there's nothing going on right now, there's just not much to report. The media can't MAKE the news, you know...

It's not like there's a war in Iraq,

or that Bush has been caught doing something illegal.

Gosh, people, this isn't a difficult one to grasp.

9. It's "News News"
And everybody knows that the number one thing the news-readers on these networks like to talk about is themselves and their fellow news-reader travellers. That's why anytime they can report on "News News" it goes to the head of the "Must Read Story List".

Edited on Thu Apr-06-06 01:24 PM by Beaverhausen
Millions of people watch her every day and have for 15 years.

She will now anchor one of the national evening news broadcasts.

It is news. If you don't care then don't bother paying attention to it.

13. it's news. do you think only politics should be on the news? the
government and the war are not the only things going on. it's the job of the media to report everything.

14. I think that celebrity worship is helping to bring down our culture.
People liked Bush's image even if they could kind of see he didn't know what he was talking about.

People tune in every week to hear a few 'critics' tells us all what we like and what we don't like on stupid contest shows (and we all agree on this, don't we children?).

Everything Michael Jackson does becomes news (because he's setting our foreign and domestic policy, right?)

We focus for months on celebrity victims (Holloway, Levy, etc. etc.)

Blah, Blah, Blah!

People and their opinions are not important -- or correct, or reliable, or even interesting -- just because the person in question is widely known!

Many Americans still look to CBS as an important and highly trusted source of news.
I'll keep an open mind on Katie Couric and watch how she does the job.
