MSNBC: How can we stop child predators?
How about stop hiring them in the Department of Homeland Security, especially as the head of the child predator operation?

4. and religion
Between the priests and the baptist preachers/deacons and the "retraining camps" - I think you'd eliminate a whole lot of breeding ground for this type of behaviour.

13. well, a lot of them. A lot of bad things done in the name of religion. Esp
here in the US of A. We would not be in Iraq. We would not have taken such brainless steps in Israel-Palestine. We would not be preventing the deaths of millions of Africans with our religious based abstinence vs. AIDS drugs bullshit. We would be researching stem cells, getting rid of aith based initiatives and preventing the evil corrupting force of preachers and their faiths from destroying our country.

SO, yeah, actually it would help a lot with murder, rape, muggings and more.

7. By not making them in the first place...
Easier said than done, naturally.

I suspect it has something to do with people not getting "closure" on their childhood, and so they feel compelled to stay in it in some fashion.

I'm totally pulling that outta my ass of course... I have no idea.

10. Thats just it, unless your willing to put into place
something where the goverment watches, tapes, listens and follows every citizen around 24/7,365 you can't stop a thing. Are you willing to have uncle Sam put a camera in every room of your house, have your car with a camera watching you as you drive, plus a camera every place where people go, that includes rest rooms you can't stop crime before it happens. There is no such thing as protection, 9/11 should have brought that fact home, if its going to happen theres no way to stop it regaurdless of what SHRUB tells you or any other law and order type. If you want safe, then lock yourself in your basement and avoid all human contact, even then your not safe, you still have yourself to deal with.

11. Right
Why should taxpayers pay for people like this? He was using his government issued phone numbers to communicate with who he thought was a teen.

12. A teacher assaulted a kid at my daughter's school...
a few weeks ago---apparently a boy had fallen asleep in class and the teacher went over to him, undid the kid's pants and assaulted him...AND HE TOLD THE KIDS IN THE CLASS TO GET IT ON THEIR CELL PHONE CAMERAS..so they did. The assault was on video. The incident never did make our local paper. They were too busy covering the local soccer coach who got arrested for assaulting his female soccer team members. HE is also is now charged w/ sexual assault of some kids when he was a substitute teacher (parents saw the news article and reported the school assaults).
-----
In a related article I found a few days ago:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chicago/chi-0604030240apr03,1,6461541.story?coll=chi-newslocalchicago-hed&ctrack=1&cset=true

Most states use FBI screenings to check the criminal backgrounds of potential teachers, but those applying for teaching jobs in Indiana are subject only to the state's limited criminal history check.

At least 41 other states use FBI fingerprint checks to research teachers, the Indianapolis Star reported. But Indiana's limited checks rely on incomplete records from county courthouses--meaning some teachers with criminal records can slip through the cracks.

For example, a teacher Florida officials charged with possessing cocaine with intent to sell was hired by an Indianapolis school last year, after limited background checks failed to turn up his record. Indiana requires background checks before teachers can be licensed, but it doesn't ensure that schools screen job candidates. Those convicted of drug dealing, crimes involving children and some other felonies are not allowed to teach.
