2. Thanks, stb!
I've been looking. I found Doc 80 at the end of the Sun article, but couldn't find the others.

Here's my take: They aren't saying Bush told Libby specifically to leak the info, they're saying that Bush wanted the info leaked. Thus, the two seemingly contradictory statements from Faux News aren't really so contradictory.

"There was no indication in the filing that either Bush or Cheney authorized I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby to disclose Valerie Plame's CIA identity."

"Before his indictment, Libby testified to the grand jury investigating the Plame leak that Cheney told him to pass on the information and that it was Bush who authorized the leak, the court papers say. According to the documents, the authorization led to the July 8, 2003, conversation between Libby and New York Times reporter Judith Miller."

Am I right?

6. Libby testified that he was authorized to leak the NIE to Miller. He had
also testified that he couldn't have possibly discussed Plame's identity to Miller on July 8 because big Timmy hadn't told him about her identity yet. He "forgot" he had learned her identity in June from Administration sources, he "forgot" the Plame portion of his July 8 meeting with Miller (and "forgot" to mention that they had met on June 23 and he'd discussed Wilson's wife) and "forgot" that in his discussion with Timmy, Plame was not discussed.)

17. I have no doubt he was authorized to leak the info
nor do I doubt he knew what he was doing while he was doing this and lied to cover his butt and the administration's (oops, it didn't work!).

What I see from this new info, where the news is that Libby said Bush okayed the leak, is that Bush didn't say, "Scooter, get out there and leak this". That was Cheney. Bush told Cheney, and maybe Libby, that he wanted this out there. Cheney then said, "Scooter, you're up". The new info here is that Bush was actually involved (which we all suspected) and now there's something on the record to that effect.

But, then again, I'm only on page 3 of the .pdf. :)

Again, the money 'graph from Waas' article is this:

The former senior official said in an interview that he believed that the attempt to conceal the contents of the one-page summary were intertwined with the efforts to declassify portions of the NIE and to leak information to the media regarding Plame: "It was part and parcel of the same effort, but people don't see it in that context yet."

The evidence is this:

Two days after Wilson's op-ed, Libby met with then-New York Times reporter Judith Miller and not only disclosed portions of the NIE, but also Plame's CIA employment and potential role in her husband's trip.

Same effort, same ass-covering, same intel issue, same leak.

24. What we have here, is a Rogue President.
Edited on Fri Apr-07-06 01:49 AM by countryjake
Here's Larry Johnson's explanation of the lead-up to the leaking:

http://noquarter.typepad.com/my_weblog/2006/04/george_w_bush_r.html

"By the summer of 2003, it was clear that the skeptics in the intelligence community were right. So, what did our fearful leader do? According to Scooter Libby, President Bush ordered him to spread disinformation with the press. The President tried to cherry pick intelligence and feed the line to gullible reporters that Joe Wilson's claim about Iraq's efforts to acquire uranium from Niger was wrong.

What we now know, without any shadow of doubt, is that Joe Wilson's version of events, namely, that Iraq had not tried to obtain yellowcake uranium in Niger, was accurate. In fact, the CIA had to recant on the President's 16 words in the State of the Union address, which claimed the opposite was true.

Today's revelation is simple and riveting--the effort to smear Joe Wilson went to the very top of the White House. This was not an operation of rogue political operators. Instead, we have a rogue President. If we can impeach a President for lying about a blow job from an intern, the time has come to impeach a President from giving the American people a line of bullshit about Iraq used to justify a war that has left almost 2400 American soldiers dead. George Bush did not leak to protect America. He leaked to cover his ass. That, my friends, is the definition of a coward."

25. nysun.com document: PAGE 26-27 - check this out....
Defendant’s request for discovery to show an absence of motive to lie or conceal his conduct overlooks the fact that even the materials defendant appended to his motion show that in early October 2003 (when defendant first gave his story) there would be great embarrassment to the administration if it became publicly known that defendant had participated in disseminating information about Ms. Wilson’s CIA employment, and defendant would have had every reason to assume he would be fired if his true actions became known. Then National Security Adviser Dr. Condoleeza Rice publicly stated that she knew “nothing of any such White House effort to reveal any of his, and it would certainly not be the way the president would expect his White House to operate.”

These documents are sweet. :yourock:
