Let's just blame the Mexicans
I'd say 80 to 90% of the illegal immigration focus is on the Mexican people coming over to work.
How did this happen considering that the source of the problem is those who hire?

Answer:
The corporate media puts the focus on the Mexicans and this plays nicely into inherent racist tendencies of a frightened public, all the while taking the spotlight off the real culprits...the employers.
Fact is; many "special interest", that benefit from having a sub-class of "under-the-table" workers, directly or indirectly, contribute to political campaigns and advertise on the mainstream media.
We the working-class get screwed again.

Nothing, I mean absolutely nothing, will be solved without a comprehensive approach which INCLUDES tough employer sanctions such as stiff fines, loss of business or property, and prison time.
But who will push this?

1. No, blame Canada
Times have changed
Our kids are getting worse
They won't obey their parents
They just want to fart and curse!
Should we blame the government?
Or blame society?
Or should we blame the images on TV?
No, blame Canada
Blame Canada
With all their beady little eyes
And flapping heads so full of lies
Blame Canada
Blame Canada
We need to form a full assault
It's Canada's fault!
Don't blame me
For my son Stan
He saw the damn cartoon
And now he's off to join the Klan!
And my boy Eric once
Had my picture on his shelf
But now when I see him he tells me to fuck myself!
Well, blame Canada
Blame Canada
It seems that everything's gone wrong
Since Canada came along
Blame Canada
Blame Canada
They're not even a real country anyway
My son could've been a doctor or a lawyer rich and true,
Instead he burned up like a piggy on the barbecue
Should we blame the matches?
Should we blame the fire?
Or the doctors who allowed him to expire?
fuck no!
Blame Canada
Blame Canada
With all their hockey hullabaloo
And that bitch Anne Murray too
Blame Canada
Shame on Canada
For...
The smut we must stop
The trash we must bash
The Laughter and fun
Must all be undone
Before someone thinks of blaming us!

2. The whole push on "sealing the border" - how much would this cost?
How much would those supporting these proposals be willing to pay - annually - for this end? Bush has hearalded in an era of Free Lunchism - govt should do x and y and q and p but somehow there "is no cost". The per capita amount of debt of each American has risen from about 22,000 at the beginning of the war (around the time the Debt clock was turned back on) andis over 27,000 PER PERSON.

I agree demand has to dry up - but folks don't want to talk about the increases in prices of goods and services that would result from cracking down on low-wages/illegal employment.

3. We pay anyway
People who fear "increased price" for goods and services overlook so much including the fact that when we bring wages up more money flows for the middle/working class.
When employers are held accountable for taking care of their employees, the number of workers forced into public assistance lessens.

What is avoiding a slave labor class, that drives down our standard of living worth to us anyway?

5. I agree with you, just pointing out
the elephant in the room as to why people don't talk much about the approach to which you refer (going after employers). Til we (as a society) have serious conversations about these real issues - platitudes as policies that are likely to fail but will cost a boatlaod to enact - while not dealing with root problems - will be all we will ever have.

4. Repugnican Race Card...Plain And Simple
The only way the Repugnicans can win this year is by scaring people or dividing them. Nothing does that better than a case of xenophobia. This regime has done it with A-rabs and their disdain for other non-white groups has been demonstrated over and over by one of the most disasterous foreign policies ever.

While I think there's something to be said that the states with the highest number of "illegals" are Red states...and this is driving this issue. It's "rallying" the GOOP base with fears of all types of "foreign invasion" which is a code word for them dirty Mexicans coming here and "polluting" our culture. Listen to goons like Tancredo and Kyl and you're hearing that racism coming out in it's Rovian splendor....wrapped inside the issue of "immigration".

Yes, we haven't heard a single Repugnican dare to say it's time to hold those who hire these people...large corporations that benefit greatly from the cheap labor and need this under-class not only to maintain their high profit margins, but also to keep the unions out. This regime believes that you want cheap goods at Wal-Mart rather than be concerned how those goods were made and the condition of the workers who made them.

As long as the racist Repugnicans are in control there will never be a comprehensive approach to anything but the corporate bottom line.

7. Its funny
How do these people avoid getting audited? Why are low income people getting audited and not large corps that can somehow pay people under the table and not get caught? The money has to go somewhere, therefor they are cooking the books.
