Sex tourism thriving in Bible Belt!
ATLANTA (Reuters) - In a sleazy hotel room, "Brittany," then aged 16 and drugged into oblivion, waited for the men to arrive. Her pimps sent as many as 17 clients an evening through the door.

A "john" could even pre-book the pretty young blonde for $1,000 a night, sometimes flying in and then flying out from a nearby airport.

None of this happened in Bangkok or Costa Rica, places that have become synonymous with sex tourism and underage sex.

It took place in Atlanta, the buckle of the U.S. Bible Belt, where the world's busiest passenger airport provides a cheaper, more convenient and safer underage sex destination for men seeking girls as young as 10.

I didn't see that one, either.

People need to know these atrocities are happening in our Country. Sex crimes are becoming rampant in this society.

We need to ask ourselves, "why"?

Why is it, that in another thread started yesterday, people think it's perfectly acceptable, normal, and understandable - nay even ENCOURAGED - for an UNDERAGE BOY to have sex with an older woman.

Why is that?

It is not only a crime. It is immoral. (And no, I'm not talking "religious" morality.)

What is it about pleasuring yourself by USING and ABUSING another person that seems so OK?

Take the Duke Lacross scandal. Oh boys will be boys. It just got a bit out of hand. She was "just a stripper" after all. Oh, and a SINGLE MOTHER and BLACK (and trying to put herself through school) - they were rich privileged white boys - so you can understand why they thought they could do this and get away with it.

No, I don't think this "got enough play" the other day, there were only - what? - about 10 responses? Where is the outrage? It should have been a smokin' thread instead of sinking like a stone. Maybe we're just becoming inured to story after story of sexual deviance, eh?

So what? Just some drugged up young girl. Who cares.

edit typo.

3. C'mon, don't be cruel.
I know dupes eat space and all, but I didn't see this the other day and if not double-posted I wouldn't have seen it at all.

4. Uh...1 thread with 10 responses is a lot of play?
As oppossed to say 10 different threads with 30 responses about anything from something stupid Chris Matthews said to whether we should buy flowers for Cynthia McKinney or whatever the latest overexcited cause celebre is?

It's unfortunate that you got offended by something someone said in the other thread (It was out of line I thought), but it's still a good article about an important subject so 1 other thread with 10 responses is hardly exhausting the subject (at least not by DU standards), nor is the subject itself trivial.

6. From the sound of the article...
This is NOT something people in Atlanta want, obviously. Just because it goes on doesn't mean it's a business condoned by Fundies any more than any more than any other group of people. I live in a Blue state, and if it was found to be happening here, do you think the headline should read "Liberals Condone Sex Slave Trade in Their Back Yard"? Would that mean every resident of my state, once aware of it, had secretly supported it? Hell no!

If you asked a diverse group of people: "Are you for underage prositution and exploitation of children?" just how many sane people are going to say yes? It isn't any more acceptable in Atlanta than it is Bangkok. At least, here, we can do something about it.
