Looks like McKinney is the new Gary Condit...
The media's need for a Democratic bad-guy and McKinney's righteous indignation are driving this story. Much ado about nothing, but the test marketing on the blogs proves that this story got legs.

Fortunately, I don't watch cable news much, so it's only marginally bothersome to me. But here's the creepy part: Remember what finally took Condit off the news...that's right 9/11.

2. Hey look, Nancy Pelosi has "dissed" McKinney far worse
than anyone else.

She went against House precedent and denied CM seniority based on her prior service (before she lost her House seat).

Pelosi left her swinging in the wind. Take it up with her.

There is no love lost between the two.

4. They only do seniority when they want to.
Then it's mandatory, otherwise they ignore it.

3. Regardless of how the media paints on Rep. MicKinney
I will bet on my last dollar she'll be re-elected again, and again...and this media polarization of her will only make her district voters more resolute, and supportive than ever before. She's now a household name in her state of Georgia, whether you like her or dislike her.

5. I feel that Mckiney is also being used as a diversion
It seems that the media is more interested in Mckinney than in Tom Delay and Jack Abramoff.

8. So, basically no matter how dumb a democrat acts...
It's the republicans' fault and she really wouldn't have done those things if they hadn't made her? Come on. I'm calling bullshit on this theory. She acted like an idiot on her own accord and we need to stop making excuses for her. Sure it might have been blown out of proportion, mostly by her, but she is the one that caused this, not some police officer just trying to do his job.

9. So..you think the media coverage fits the incident....and that
a republican who did the same would receive similar coverage?

12. I didn't say that...
I don't pay attention to the media. I read a bit of news everyday and it's from independent sources, usually foreign. I just see everyone making excuses for McKinney, even though she's the one who, from what I've read, was in the wrong. There is the attitude around here that no matter what democrats do, we shouldn't criticize them and somehow, someone else is responsible for their actions. That was my point. I NEVER mentioned the media in my post.

republicans' fault".

I said that the media is looking for a Democrat to demonize and that McKinney's "righteous indignation" has given the story legs.

10. Re: Condit
Do most people on the DU believe that Condit was innocent? I'm a new Dem and have no idea what you all were saying back then. At the time it seemed obvious to me that he was covering something up.

13. 24/7 on Condit....nothing on Scarborough with dead intern in office
I didn't even know about the dead intern until I read discussions about her and the cover-up on the internet

there was suspicion about Condit but a REAL DEAD BODY with Scarborough......but once again, anything's OK if you're a republican
