well, i see cbs & 60 minutes will be airing something topical
and relevant:

(CBS)

GANGSTER COPS? - One of the two ex-New York City detectives accused of being Mafia hit men vehemently denies the charges in his first interview. Ed Bradley reports. Michael Radutzky, Tanya Simon and Patti Aronofsky are the producers.

SIR HOWARD – Can new Sony CEO Sir Howard Stringer help return the venerable electronics giant to its former place at the head of the pack? Lesley Stahl reports. Rome Hartman is the producer.

BODE – Unorthodox, some would say unsafe, U.S. skiing sensation Bode Miller will do it his way when he pursues gold medals at the 2006 Winter Olympics. Bob Simon reports. Catherine Olian is the producer.

4. You make a very good point.
Which sponsors are they protecting by avoiding Abramoff and DeLay stories? Shall we write them and insist they carry such stories?

6. 60 Minutes all but created the Abramoff story two years ago.
That would be old news for them. Hopefully they will re-run it one of these days. Interviews with the tribal leaders who were defrauded by Abramoff, and links to Tom DeLay. Yeah, that one got the ball rolling a couple of years ago.

9. thanks for the suggestion; i sent my email that said:
with everything that is happening in politics why are you going to air mafia/sony/skiing???

isn't there SOMETHING a bit more relevant going on in this country? (and i'm not talking about missing grooms or runaway brides, or coal mines either!)

guess i won't be tuning in AGAIN tonight either!

(does it have something to do with protecting some of the sponsors? is that why there is no new story on the delay resignation? or abramoff? or the NSA & how they were putting cookies that tracked viewers to their website?)

here's a suggestion: why not do a story on the topic sidney blumenthal wrote about that ran on salon 1/5/06.

"Last week, when Bush signed the military appropriations bill containing the amendment forbidding torture that he and Vice President Cheney had fought against, he added his own "signing statement" to it. It amounted to a waiver, authorized by him alone, that he could and would disobey this law whenever he chose. He wrote: "The executive branch shall construe Title X in Division A of the Act, relating to detainees, in a manner consistent with the constitutional authority of the President to supervise the unitary executive branch and as Commander in Chief and consistent with the constitutional limitations on the judicial power, which will assist in achieving the shared objective of the Congress and the President, evidenced in Title X, of protecting the American people from further terrorist attacks." In short, the president, in the name of national security, claiming to protect the country from terrorism, under war powers granted to him by himself, would follow the law to the extent that he decided he would."

http://www.salon.com/opinion/blumenthal/2006/01/05/spying/print.html

generally, i believe the public is unaware of this. and it seems to affect more of us (and with dire consequences) than mafia cop/sony/skiing.

8. Bruce is great
but if I have to choose between Cold Case and The West Wing - well The West Wing wins no contest.

7. Well, I can't help but love Bode Miller. He's pretty funny.
Someone is probably going to tell me he's a * supporter. I really don't want to know if he is.

11. There's proof
This show is a total joke. Bode Miller? That's nothing more than wasted air time times 100. Please, everyone send CBS a dead opposum in a giant envelope. That's all they are worth.
Now - get back to the Internet - where the REAL news is.

13. I wouldn't call the show a total joke
They do some good work. It may just be that they are at a slow production period because of the holidays. Can't call up the scholarly professors when they are on winter break. They may have recorded these a while back to fill space til they came off holiday vacations.

Just a guess, of course.
