1. They're keeping it all very, very quiet
and that generally means there's one hell of a scandal they're trying to cover up.

6. My first thought too...
police were quick to say they knew why there was a murder but would not give the reasons. There are few reasons why a woman (esp one in a church) would kill her hubby and children in danger would be one. Should be interesting....

she molested their daughters and he caught her at it.

Can't remember what channel. Just thumbing through trying to find something interesting to watch. Church is saying not to judge this woman. That tells me that something smells like a rat here. I'll put my money on him molesting the kids.

Edited on Tue Apr-04-06 08:42 AM by WinkyDink
A MOTHER molested her DAUGHTERS. Very common.

Then there's the "I want another man, but I also want to take my kids, and then flee, so the boyfriend can't find me" homicide. Yep.

BTW: There are degrees of homicide. "First-degree murder" is just one of them.

Probability has NOTHING WHATEVER to do with a specific case.

Just don't like to see the male-bashing that is so common around here.

but the stats are that the man is more likely to molest, not to say it doesn't happen in Mom's (Sybil is a famous case in point). Let's put it this way, the protective Mother's instinct is not a myth.

If it were my daughter molested-I would have no trouble pulling a trigger on hubby or anyone else. Would probably set it up so he would be good and dead.

Great - molested, with one parent in jail and one shot dead by the other.

My daughter would never be molested by her dad again. And no, I am not a freeper but I am a very protective Mom.

The one case that I have direct knowlege of an incident like this (Mom killing Dad) happening, the daughter reconciled with her Mom and was glad the abuse stopped. And Mom? You can bear any time in prison or even death if you know your child is safe-and she is. Dad shouldn't have done it and was clearly the criminal and deserved what he got. No sympathy from me. I save my sympathy for the mom and child.

Of course it would be nice if the law could handle these things and you were guarenteed it would never happen again, but I am here to tell you from both first and close aquaintence's experience, that the law doesn't always work. Moms can be portrayed as 'poisoning the child' and crazy, esp if the Dad has resources. And do you really want to risk the abuser getting custody? It's happened.

A mother's urge to protect her young can be a powerful force. A woman that has dealt with years of abuse will generally take a stand when the abuse becomes directed at the children for example.

Who knows what brought about this incident. It is a sad thing for everyone.

Flame away but then, moms can take it.

44. I'd still say it's an emotional response that ignores the child's
long term needs. In other words, it is NOT protective.

Killing one parents and having the other in jail is a really really lousy set up for any kid.

If I found the law ultimately could not protect my kids I might take extra-legal action (like leaving the country). But I'd always act with an eye on what's best for my kids, not what's my feeling.

she was right to shoot him.

And the state is right to prosecute and punish her for it.

She made a moral decision, and now has to bear the consequences, as she should.

but I read so much news online, while watching it on tv, too - remembering where I read something these days is a problem.

You know, when you pick up a magazine or a newspaper, you remember what you were reading better because your body saw and felt it, registered it's name and look better.

Hell, online you can barely tell the difference between any of the news channels' sites.

much more than women on kids.

I haven't read anything that made me think "ah, now this is clearing the issue up with real data."

It's mainly anecdotal and inferential suppositions.

Edited on Mon Apr-03-06 06:51 PM by Neil Lisst
The woman who is evil enough to shoot her husband in the back, is evil enough to know she needs a good cover story to save her ass and rationalize her murdering him.

On the other hand, the woman who is abused by her husband and who finds him abusing their children might explode and commit manslaughter or murder two.

I'm going to have a real problem with allegations of his abuse if there is no really good physical evidence which supports it.

I gather from all her supporters that they think she had a substantial reason.

Unlike the "Christian right" I hate to pass judgment on anything, especially without anything to go on but it looks as if something was definitely going on.

18. While I recognize there can be extenuating circumstances ...
... it's still not right.

I'm a parent, and I can't imagine anything the mother of my children could do that would cause me to kill her. Nothing. I don't care how heinous her acts might be. Because she is the mother of my children, and I cannot kill her without killing part of them, forever.

If a spouse has done wrong, deal with that wrong. Killing ain't right.

36. another approach to defending the case
Edited on Mon Apr-03-06 08:21 PM by Neil Lisst
There is a small, but significant number of people who take anti-depressants who become homicidal. It's the kind of defense people don't want to acknowledge, but I'm convinced it's real.

Every drug has the potential to affect a small number in ways that may seem inexplicable or even unlikely. But any drug that can affect your mood swings is acting on your brain, which is told what to do by chemical and eletrical triggers.

I don't know if she was on anti-depressants, but any time a young person inexplicably kills like this, I wonder if anti-depressants might be involved. The industry puts a lot of money into saying it ain't so, but there are too many cases of 10 and 12 and 14 year olds on anti-depressants who kill, and who say they've become crazy on the drugs.

Most the stories do not get national coverage because of big Pharm, but look for them in your local newspapers.

Look at the contraindications for antidepressants sometime, though. I'm sure they do a lot of good, but so do peanuts, and they kill whoever is allergic to them.

and their impact on a select few who take them

If she was on them, there's no telling what her reality was at the moment she shot him. See my above post, but given the fact she's 31, has three kids, and her mother died last year, it's not a stretch to think she might be on antidepressants.

I believe a very few people are drastically affected in a negative way, and become either homicidal or suicidal. She could have been there. She does not look mentally well to me, at all.

I sure as hell don't. Yeah, it's sad, it's tragic, but it had no bearing on my life whatsoever. Your eagerness to "find out what happened" will only breathe life into an endless stream of "investigative coverage" by the likes of Dan Abrams, Nancy Grace, and Rocky-The-Squirrel (Rita Cosby). Who the hell needs that? Why do we feel so compelled to ambulance chase in this culture? Oy vey.
