WASHINGTON, April 3 /Christian Wire Service/ -- The debate over the Senate’s version of the Immigration Bill to stop the flow of Illegal Aliens into our nation is in full swing in Washington DC.

One of the arguments for the new bill is that it will provide a difficult path for Illegal Aliens to gain permanent residency in our country. Since that means that they will end up in America, it sounds like amnesty.

Some of these proposals would include Illegal Aliens registering as a guest worker, paying a fine and working here for 11 years before they become eligible to apply for citizenship.

One of the arguments for passing a bill with such a clause is that we don’t have the resources to round up 12,000,000 Illegal Aliens and deport them. Another argument is that we don’t have the resources or enough jail space to put these Illegal Aliens in jail. Of course a high percentage of Illegal Aliens are already in our prison system.

Don Swarthout, President, of Christians Reviving America’s Values said, “If we do not have the resources to round up these Illegal Aliens, deport them or to put them in jail, how are we going to enforce making them register? What resources are we going to use to make sure that will happen? It really seems like this bill is really all about amnesty.”

“When the protestors were marching in Los Angeles, Atlanta, and in other cities, they carried Mexican Flags. By waving their Mexican flags in our faces the protestors seemed to say, ‘We are Mexicans and we are here to take over your country. We will tell you what to do.’ That is just wrong and it will not be tolerated by the majority of Americans voters. We must close our borders, without any excuses.” Swarthout said.

“If we don’t stop this illegal immigration the cost of welfare, prison system, education and hospitalization for Illegal Aliens will continue to erode away the financial well being of the United States. If we are already out of resources, how can we keep this whole thing going? America may be in trouble already,” Swarthout concluded.

8. Immigration didn't become an issue until republican grassroots

anger made it an issue: it wasn't the top leadership of the party (Bush in particular) who wanted it to be an issue. They just wanted the issue to be ignored, in part because business likes access to cheap labor and in part because they are courting culturally conservative Hispanic voters.

Public anger of what they view as colonization by Mexicans is propelling this issue, whether or not some peckerwood preacher seeks to exploit it. (E.g., the LA region was 25% Hispanic in 1980 but now its greater than 50%. Protesters waving the Mexican flag didn't help matters.) Progressives need to be careful here. If progressives say that concern about illegal immigration is misplaced or racist, the public will interpret this as progressives supporting illegal immigration. This could be bad in 2008 -- especially if the economy takes a major hit.

It should be "Christians Reviving America's Patriotism." That way both his supporters and detractors would know exactly what he stands for.

11. I once had the experience of seeing an impressive and

disturbing production: I sat in a megachurch with perhaps 4,000 other people, as color guards representing each of the five uniformed services entered the sanctuary to the tune of each respective service song (e.g., Anchors Aweigh for the Navy). This was at the Independence Day holiday weekend services, at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky (a church locals call "Six Flags Over Jesus," that has 17,000 members). This was in 2004.

4. I thought of this last night...are others thinking this too?

Talk radio lately has been spewing hate and fostering polarization regarding the immigration issue. They are totally demonizing, and trying to make people HATE these immigrants.

I took a four-hour trip yesterday and I heard a lot of right-wing radio late at night. On Drudge, he was insinuating that Mexicans are bringing in disease--in particular the Mumps.

The flag issue is really getting a lot of play. Drudge insisted that many of them are putting up Mexican flags and hanging the American flags upside down. Drudge talked about one school that decided on a "no flag" policy in the school because the Mexicans had made such a fuss about their own flag being up. I'm sure these stories are FALSE, or at best--a biased, one sided version of the story.

Other right-wing hate radio is in concert--against undocumented immigrants. They are ranting so much hate and they all have anecdotal evidence of awful crime and the horrible consequences of illegal immigrants. There's discussion about illegal immigrants moving into communities and the communities being wrecked and hospitals closing--because these people don't pay. I don't know how much of this is true. However, all of this hate-propaganda is extremely troubling.

Does anyone else find it a bit suspicious that Bush left the border completely open and did absolutely nothing all of these years? It's as if he wanted them to come in--maybe to later demonize them? I feel like a trap has been set.

Right-wing-hate radio furthers the WH agenda. For some reason, the WH wants people to hate these illegals and view them as inhuman.

For what purpose? What is going on?

Is this what these new prison camps are for? Someone on DU posted a picture of one of these camps and a government official said these camps would be for "holding" illegals until they were returned. This has never been procedure before? Why have special "prisons" for them--which are located in remote areas and lined with razor wire--as pictured in the photo of the camp?

Is something really sinister going on?
