Turns Out Black Men Go Gay Because Black Women Don't Put Out
Married black women who do not have regular sex with their husbands are to blame for the "down low" and the rise of HIV infection among African Americans.

That was just one message delivered during a two-day summit on "Protecting the Biblical Institution of Marriage and Family Values," held March 25-26 at Kingdom Builders Christian Center, a large predominately black church in Norcross.

...

Addressing the "down-low," a term that describes married black men having sex with other men in secret, Pleasant told hundreds of worshipers March 25 that God intended man and woman to procreate.

"The marital duty is not being fulfilled," Pleasant said. "Why are we with you women? Just think about it…we have a strong sex drive. You need to do your part and keep the marriage bed pure. Whenever your husband wants sex it is your duty to say yes."

1. Sure. That's how it works.
Just like when gay men can't find another male partner, they start having sex with women.

You become a rebublican... or spend a lot of time at the box turtle exhibit at the zoo.

There's so much to learn at a fundie convention!

34. LOL! Reminds me of the old shibboleth re: adulterous men play around
because their WIVES don't "take care of them at home."
I knew a woman who caught her husband at his secretary's house and he said it was....her (wife's) fault... as she spent too much time at work, with the kids, etc. and didn't cater to HIS needs enough.

Poor sap fell for it and chastised herself that she was a bad wife.(!)

16. Just think of all the money and energy being spent defending absolutist..
moral positions that could be used to improve our environment, promote inter-gender and inter-racial relations, advocate for peace, etc.

Hmmmm....come up with an affordable renewable source of clean energy or have an apoplectic fit about homosexuals and chaining women to the marriage bed? That's a tough ethical dilemma.

Assholes.

18. It gets worse:
Rev. Lou Sheldon, chair of the Traditional Values Coalition, a conservative group opposed to gay civil rights, was the guest speaker for the weekend. His organization is actively recruiting large black churches in its effort to battle the "homosexual agenda."

In January, Sheldon, who is white, and 70 black pastors who supported President George W. Bush met in Los Angeles. The summit yielded the "Black Contract with America on Moral Values," the Los Angeles Times reported.

In exchange for black churches focusing on defeating marriage for same-sex couples, the churches will receive money through the government’s faith-based initiative programs, the paper reported.

Sheldon, who told the Norcross congregation that he has been fighting "gay rights" since 1972, began his sermon by declaring, "Preachers never lie."

We're paying for this.

30. Fundies are loons but watch out!
If the wives don't allow the husbands to have enough sex why aren't these husbands having affairs with women? Men don't become gay because they are limited from enough sexual activity with females. These concepts that the Fundies are espousing are absurd. It is another wack method in an attempt to sugjugate women.

now if mr. pleasant will address the issue of the gay husband who won't put out because he's getting it on the side w. his boyfriend and making his wife feel like a freak for wanting sex more than once a month...mr. pleasant? mr. pleasant?

as a woman there is fuck-all i can do to change a gay man's orientation, i think mr. pleasant would be stunned if he realized how many wives had to quietly step out and get satisfaction elsewhere

41. You know I googled "Kingdom Builders Christian Center"
And look what came-up, http://www.kingdombuilders.org/index2.htm

If you got and look around, the message is very close to what I remember the Jehovah's Witness to be.

Even at the top of the site, there is an image of a castle, looks very similar to the Watchtower emblem. Watchtower is the name of one of the JW 'zines.

The message of the coming Kingdom, these folks are millenniumists, just like the JW's. I'm here to tell ya, it doesn't get any more fundamentalists that the JW's. I'd say these folks were JW's except, the JW's as I remember then didn't get involved with politics. I wonder if this is a branch-off of JW's that saw the gleem of Uncle Sam's gold, and decided politics was where it is at. The message is actually, God is going to destroy the world , but if you join us, "He won't destroy you because we are the only organization that God approves. Therefore if you want to live, then you must join us. As for Jesus, well he is actually only an angel, if you join us, well we alone have an in with the big guy Himself." Thus, the organization replaces Jesus as God. It subtle, but it works in controlling people, especially if their minds are bombarded daily with the message. It's probably a cult.

It was really a deja vu moment looking at that site.

45. Homophobia is a political tool
it is used to dilute the will of the people into groups fighting each other rather than banding together politically. Now toss in some men's insecurity about how they swing, sprinkle in some fire and brimestone religion (make that the zealot's God) and it becomes a tool to be used by politicians and religious zealots to control people. Making a scapegoat is actually pretty easy. Now they are trying for a double, the homosexuals and uppity women. Welcome to the south.

51. Bullsh*t
Black men don't "turn gay" because their women won't put out. Gay black men hide their true status in sham marriages because they are under tremendous pressure not to be identified as gay. They live, instead, "on the down-low".

"Black men are not supposed to be attracted to other men," says Phill Wilson, executive director of the Black AIDS Institute in Los Angeles. "When a young man notices that he has that attraction, he has no place to explore it. Every message he gets tells him to lie about this."

While it's okay for our hairdressers, makeup artists, stylists, interior decorators and clothing designers to be gay, too many Black folks still believe that men who have sex with men are somehow less than masculine. So instead of facing alienation from their families and loved ones, these men, albeit selfishly, choose to forge lasting relationships with women and conduct sexual relationships with men on the side.

http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1264/is_4_35/ai_n6132454

Today, while there are black men who are openly gay, it seems that the majority of those having sex with men still lead secret lives, products of a black culture that deems masculinity and fatherhood as a black man's primary responsibility -- and homosexuality as a white man's perversion.

snip

Rejecting a gay culture they perceive as white and effeminate, many black men have settled on a new identity, with its own vocabulary and customs and its own name: Down Low...Most date or marry women and engage sexually with men they meet only in anonymous settings like bathhouses and parks or through the Internet...Most DL men identify themselves not as gay or bisexual but first and foremost as black. To them, as to many blacks, that equates to being inherently masculine.
