Amazing blog by Driftglass
http://driftglass.blogspot.com/2006/03/live-free-or-buy.html

"In 1861 the South was prosperous specifically because of the forced labor of four million brown people who were reviled, exploited, abused and utterly necessary.

In 2006, America is prosperous specifically because of the peonage-cheap, illegal labor of twelve million brown people who are reviled, exploited, abused and utterly necessary.

We tolerate with a wink-and-a-nudge a system that simultataneously criminalizes a labor force of twelve million to keep them underground and terrified, and then carefully extracts their labor for pennies.

Any social policy which doesn’t confront immigration on those terms will fail and fail badly because, in the end, we really only have two choices: Either a renegotiation of the social contract to pay working people a living wage, or an open recognition that we will forever rely more and more on cheaper and cheaper labor to remain spoiled and Holy.

So far we have chosen neither. We have chosen to burn through our collective inheritance of wealth and prestige to make foolish choices, set foolish policies, wage foolish wars, without having to feel any pain. Like crack-heads, we have stolen from our parents and mooched from our children enough fast, high-interest cash to allow us to trundle along in a state of oblivious Eloi-ness where we don’t have to make any hard decisions and our God-Given Right to Comfort and Ease keeps us from asking too many tough questions about where all this Free Lunch is actually coming from."

Read the whole thing. It's really good.

1. "That God wants gas prices to be low."
Excellent blog.

another snip:

"But Physics and Economics are brutal loan-sharks and we can’t all live forever on borrowed money, no matter how successful certain individuals like Dubya have been at doing just that.

And sooner than we ever dreamed possible the day will be upon us when we will be required to choose between working and living a little harder and a little smarter for a little less in the short run, but a lot of good in the long term…or to continue to insist that God demands that we get the top cut of everything, even if it takes an army to force the rest of the world to give it to us."

2. I've been posting this article to all immigration post,
the link thats attached does not work. If you want to find the original try this in a google search. "The IIE board includes David Rockefeller"

Immigration and globalization...

Read this publication and recoil in horror as I did.

www.iie.com/publications/chapters_preview/331/5iie3284....

The IIE board includes David Rockefeller, Harvard President Larry Summers and long-time Rockefeller agents Paul Volcker and Pete Peterson. These guys are globalists (New World Order types) in case you didn't know.

This file is copy protected so I cannot cut and paste. What they more or less propose is integrating the US, Canada and Mexico. I heard a report on CNN that said they hope to accomplish this by 2010. They said there would be new governing bodies. First is the North American Commission to be appointed by government, but independent of government (you know...no oversight and probably more or less secret...like CIFIUS). These guys are the planners.

Then they propose making a group called the North American Parliamentary Group (NAPG) which would be comprised of legislators from all three countries. That sounds icky to me.

They also suggest a new currency, the "Amero". You guys will see...the dollar will collapse like it did in the late '70s. Fuel, gold, silver and other commodities will go through the roof in the next year. I suspect this new currency will be introduced to 'save the day'. Never mind that fiat currency is a way to steal wealth from the people who don't understand the system of money, wealth and finance (as the Rockefellars do).

Globalization is the same as the New World Order. Slowly but surely, they don't want individual countries. Once there's a world government, with today's technology, they can impose a world tyranny that will be hard to beat. I believe that's their aim, but they have to break America down first. They need to keep making us more poor and less educated. They have to reduce wages. They need to encourage Mexican immigration. You see, US citizens don't want to merge with Mexico, so in order to merge us, they're encouraging Mexicans to relocate!! Vincente Fox is doing exactly that (with the back door blessings of our power elite).

So, this isn't just about cheap labor and corporations. Its way way more insidious. Its about the undoing of America and taking away our sovereign status as an independent country. Canada has similarly been sold out (and with a little googling, you'll see many are unhappy about it). Heck, Quebec doesn't even want to be part of Canada, how are they going to cope with being part of the US and Mexico too!!

The new world order is real. I'm just not convinced they're devil worshipers (which is what the conspiracy web pages allege).

10. Well maybe kooky! I'll except that
But i didn't write the article. I left a trail to research the article, just type in a google search "The IIE board includes David Rockefeller" It worked for me, as i researched the article before posting.

I might add that calling anything Kooky this day and age seems a bit kooky to me, Allot of information out there must be taken with a grain of salt but most should be investigated IMHO.

9. "The Amero"???
The American/global economy would implode exactly 0.0000000004 seconds after the announcement of such a switchover. Literally. It would be like a supernova in reverse.

11. Franken is at his best in directly confronting these Beltway fools.
As an honest centrist, he actually takes their lies seriously enough to deconstruct them.

4. Driftglass is consistently brilliant........
He's my homey and one day I want to meet him and buy him a beer. He has a major gift and articulates his positions simply and precisely. His attitudes and insights are very close to mine but I'm blown away by how easy he is to read.

His writing reflects well reasoned passion. That's the best way I can describe it.

7. Well, it's been known for a long time that Republicans (and far too many
in the Democratic Party leadership) prefer cheap labor with no rights. But I think we need to be wary and strategic in our analysis of why this issue--immigration--is suddenly a thing, stirred up by Bush junta proposals.

With rightwing Bushite corporations now controlling the tabulation of all of our votes, with 'TRADE SECRET,' PROPRIETARY programming code and virtually no audit/recount controls--an election system brought to you by the two biggest crooks in Congress, Tom Delay and Bob Ney--the junta needs to think of newsstream scenarios to "explain" their otherwise inexplicable electoral 'victories.' In 2004, we had gay marriage and 'John Kerry is the coward, not Bush' swiftboating. Americans are pretty stupid when it comes to Bush (this scenario goes)--they hate him most of the time, in huge numbers, but when it comes to voting, they somehow suddenly put all the theft and murder and lawlessness and treason and $8 trillion deficits aside and love Bush. Right. There has to be some reasonable-sounding explanation for why the junta keeps 'winning,' despite all. They make it up ahead of time--easily done with this lapdog corporate news monopoly press--for the LATER "taking points."

Anyway, I see the same train coming this year. This is a 'news' set up. Leftists should refuse to talk about it. Fuck that. Immigration, my ass. Let's talk about Diebold and ES&S instead, and who they are, and where they got their funding, and why rightwing Bushite corporations have ended up 'counting' all our votes behind a veil of secrecy.

-----

Throw Diebold and ES&S election theft machines into 'Boston Harbor' NOW!

8. I don't see how bad times ahead for US can be stopped
US society has been living on borrowed money and borrowed time for years. We don't make anything anymore. It would cost too much money. WalMart should be renamed ChinaMart, but they only are a glimpse at all our society.
Mexico has a political, economical and political system that can not support its population growth, but the Mexican ruling class need not worry. The underemployed just come up here. There will alway be some American businessman more than willing to pay them less than prevailing wages. Besides, the more Mexicans working in the economy, the more profit for businessmen using illegal workers. As Bush would have us believe, the more money that upper one percent gets, the better the economy.
No politician is going to touch any solution with a ten foot pole. It will involve a lower of the standard of living we have all gotten used to. Truth tellers don't get reelected, or even elected.
I'm glad I'm a senior. I wouldn't want to be 22 years in this country.

13. Yeah, that's kind of my point. This is all shuckin jive. They are NOT
going to do anything about immigration, and never had any intention to. This is all a pre-election-laid-out scenario to 'explain' the Bushites' "come-back" gains in November, compliments of Diebold and ES&S.

Do you-all KNOW what just happened in Calif? After they swiftboated our honest, Democratic, ELECTED Sec of State Kevin Shelley out of office (who had sued Diebold and decertified the the worst of their election theft machines), the Repub Schwarz APPOINTEE Bruce McPherson ILLEGALLY re-certified Diebold touchscreens--has been angling to do it all year (shutting out the public from meetings, etc.), and finally just did it. Illegally. By fiat.

Schwarz, of course, is facing his first real election here--and is very unpopular. McPherson is also on the ballot in Nov. This is how much they NEED Diebold election theft machines to 'win.' And, latest word is, Schwarz just hired on Bush's swiftboating PR team, to create 'news' scenarios out here in Calif, for AFTER the election, to 'explain' the Schwarz/McPherson 'come-back.'

It's just so obvious to ME, I don't understand anyone buying into this phony immigration debate--on either side. I sympathize with the protesters, of course. I think THEY are sincere. What a shaft Latin American immigrants--legal and illegal--and natives, for that matter--are getting all around! All of Latin America is on fire these days with an awesome leftist revolution (in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Venezuela, Bolivia--and soon Peru and also Mexico!). We are seeing some of that leftist fire here, in the amazing Latino community organization that can mobilize so much street protest so well. The racist/nativist hatred that Bush is stirring up is real enough in some bad white American hearts. Latinos are justified in reacting--and wise to show a bit of their power. But the whole matter, as framed by Bushites, is really NOTHING, compared to Bush's $8 trillion deficit, his horrendous disaster in Iraq, the FEMA implosion (also racist), the president's open avowal to commit felonies (domestic spying without a warrant), the absolute of open artery of US jobs being 'downsized' and outsourced, the raging war and oil profiteering, credit card companies run amok, and the whole catastrophe of the Bush junta.

Immigration is our problem? Right. Just send those poor brown people back where they came from (...ahem*), and all will be well.

Har-har.

It's another fantasy 'talking point' election play book scam, my friends.

---------

I have to say this again. HOW COME WE'RE TALKING ABOUT BROWN PEOPLE AND THEIR RIGHT TO BE HERE, and are NOT talking about Bushites controlling the vote 'count' behind a veil of secrecy? WHO SET THIS AGENDA?

14. When California goes red this next election!
Then and only then will voters wake up, but of course it'll be to late to do anything about it. As you said this has little to do with immigration, and everything to do with smoke and mirrors.
