FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.....THE ISSUE IS NOT SPYING
IT IS DOING DO WITHOUT A COURT SAYING IT IS OK FIRST OR WITHIN 72 HOURS.

THAT IS THE LAW (FISA) AND ANYTHING SHORT OF THAT IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL!!!!!

Those who want to make it into a larger issue about "spooks" spying on AMericans are missing the only issue that matters.

Gonzo is trying to make it about the leak itself rather than warrant-less spying.

We play into** hands if we focused on the secret court and its right to approve warranted Surveillance. Oversight is not the issue.. it is * thinking that he does not have to follow the rules.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP TRYING TO DROWN OUT THE ONLY ISSUE THAT MATTERS: THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES DIRECTLY AUTHORIZED UNCONSTITUTIONAL ACTIVITY AND HAS ADMITTED TO IT ON NATIONAL TV AND HAS SAID HE WOULD DO IT AGAIN.

Every ounce of our effort should be focused there. Warranted Surveillance may scare you, but it is completely constitutional and a legitimate use of police and executive power.

GET OVER IT AND GET FOCUSED!!

1. Exactly, allow this to pass and the are no more checks on Bush
power at all.

Bush is advocating RW-totalitarianism to fight the strawman enemy of a middle-eastern caliphate.

If we allow this we are no better than the Germans who enabled the rise of Hitler's totalitarian Germany.

2. Yes, that should be the rallying cry. That is what is illegal. BushCo has
... thumbed their nose at the LAW and basically said they are above the LAW. As the Republicans liked to say during the Clinton era "the President is not above the law". Spying itself is not illegal or unconstitutional UNLESS it is done WITHOUT a court issued warrent which is backed up with sworn testimony/probable cause as the constitution stipulates. No "law" or act" can grant powers that are not given by the Constitution.

3. Russ Feingold said it best:
No man is above the law.

I add to that:

Bush broke the law-he has admitted as such.
Bush should be tried for his crime.

And for any trolls out there, no excuses allowed for breaking the law. And no, Lincoln did NOT become a dictator during the Civil War-he knew if he did he would be destroying the US just as surely as the rebels were trying to destroy it. What Bush doesn't realize (or does he care?) is that by flaunting the rule of law and the Constitution, he is doing what no terrorist could ever do-destroy our government and our rule of law.

4. bush has proudly stated that he is above the LAW.
He has said to hell with the constitution. To hell with checks and balances.

He has stated that he has the power to do anything he wants to do.

Essentially he is declaring that he is our dictator.

This is absolutely what we must focus on.

5. Exactly. No doubt neos were just trying to set a "new precedent". They
love "new norms".

All part of social revolution.

6. No one is above the law. Checks and balances of 3 parts of admin
executive, legislative and congressional branches are supposed to provide checks and balances. If Mr.bush doesn't like the law, he needs to do like everyone else, figure out a way to change it or go along with it. Yes, being pres does get you goodies, but does not mean you are above the law. That is called a dictator Mr.bush. Or a king. Monarch, absolute ruler. But not the government and rule we have here, or are supposed to have here via the constitution.
