Feingold won't rule out Bush impeachment
Feingold won't rule out Bush impeachment

By Shay Totten & Kathryn Casa | Vermont Guardian

posted January 8, 2006

BURLINGTON — If Pres. George Bush broke laws when ordering wiretaps and secret spying on U.S. citizens, a key Senate Democrat said he would not rule out calling for his impeachment.

"I think there is an orderly and dignified way to find out what happened," said Russ Feingold of Wisconsin. "And, if there was a legal violation there needs to be accountability ... you can't put the cart before the horse, but I would not rule out any form of accountability."

That would include impeachment, Feingold told reporters.

1. The Senate does not impeach.
I don't rule out impeachment either.

2. I like that he's out there saying it but....
...is he only doing it for political gain, just a publicity stunt, or are our comfortable, blue-blood, elitist leaders finally going to take the destruction of this nation, along with the lost lives of thousands of soldiers and tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians, and the slow agonizing death of Americans at home with no health care that even poor communist dictatorships let their citizens enjoy.

If the democratic politicians are only saying they want to impeach, but they aren't really serious about doing anything, then they need to just shut up and show everyone their GOP membership card that they have secretly stashed away.

Like with Tom Delay, even if he doesn't get convicted, the damage is already done, he's out of power and it's "rightly" (play on words) deserved.

3. Russ doesn't tend to do 'publicity stunts' ...
... he's one of the few pols who truly thinks through an issue before voicing an opinion. You'll notice he said "... there's an orderly way to find out ..." and " ... don't put the cart before the horse..."

4. The fact that you ask the question

"...is he only doing it for political gain, just a publicity stunt{?}"

makes it clear that you don't know much about Russ. He goes his own way. The only Senator to vote against the Patriot Act, for example. You may not always like his positions (for example he was pretty disturbed about Clinton's behavior, and he tends to vote for Presidential nominees unless there's blood dripping from their hands), but he's faithful to his principles.

He voted against the Iraq War Resolution in October 2002.

He called for a timetable for troop withdrawal. At the time he did it, the call for troop withdrawal put him out there all alone again.

In re: impeachment, DUer ClassWArrior just reminded me on another thread that Russ was speculating about the possibility of impeachment last June at the WI State Dem Convention.

8. We'll see and I'll bet a $100 DU donation that no one ever gets serious.

My comments aren't directed solely at him and I do like what he's saying against the administration and the war, but as far as when it comes to serious actions, I haven't seen anything except what are in my opinion, "publicity stunts". Like when the 2000 election was hijacked by Bush and the Republican party, lot's of democratic faces on TV saying "what an outrage", "yadda, yadda", but where was that one senator when the Black Congressional Caucus needed them? If you know where they were and why they were hiding, please share with me as I don't seem to know what I'm talking about.

11. On the 2000 election and the lack Congressional Caucus situation.
You're 100% correct. That is one scene in F911 that brings me to tears EVERY time. And, I do shake my fist wondering where the hell Russ on that.

I told his office I was angered by that and also by his vote on Roberts. But, I also don't doubt his sincerity and intentions when he DOES stand up, and mostly, I support him when he does and encourage him to do it more.

15. I think the dem. elites got reprecussion from that too as....
Barbara Boxer showed up for them this time in Ohio.

There is hope as long as the leaders remember that we hired them and that they are working for us. And don't forget, like any other boss, we can fire them if they don't do their jobs.

16. Damn straight! THAT's why we should support people like Boxer and
Feingold! Give them proper support and kudos for wise decisions and tell them we disagree with the poor ones.

I feel extremely luck to be represented by the likes of Russ.

Sadly, I am also represented by the saddest excuse for a Congressional rep.

17. Me too
>>Sadly, I am also represented by the saddest excuse for a Congressional rep.<<

And it's because of the deals the two sides make with each other. I won't mention her name but the press and everyone else calls her the dumbest person in Washington, DC. To prove it they make up fake stories to tell her and then she gives out BS opinions on them, (the fake news stories), and I truly believe, as the way her congressional district boundary is drawn with two foot wide strips going for miles down highways and then circle highly black populated areas that the republicans gave the democrats this one and we blindly accepted as she is positively no threat to them and she leaves this region totally non-represented so that they can freely implement their agendas.
Tell me how else a democrat could win by landslides, election after election, in a red state and an even darker, even more red city completely run by a 30,000 plus member First Baptist Church?

5. You should do some research on Russ before you make that claim.
Edited on Sun Jan-08-06 11:48 AM by Daisy Adair
He's the real deal and his voting record proves it. He's been against the war, the ONLY rep to vote against the USA PATRIOT Act, against the Bankruptcy Bill and on and on and on.

Russ is the real deal.

10. Sadly, he can't do it alone, so I won't be taking you up on that bet.

Do you think it was a publicity stunt for Russ to be the sole vote against the USA PATRIOT Act? Was the McCain-Feingold overhaul of campaign finance a ploy for attention?

I just think that if we continue with questioning the motives of the VERY FEW true liberals we have, we will wind up with even fewer. They deserve our support for speaking up and TRYING, not our judgment and speculation of their motives. I am a constituent of Russ's and I completely trust his motives; more than any Rep in any state.

Oh, and thanks for the "welcome" :hi:.

12. Questions;
>>Do you think it was a publicity stunt for Russ to be the sole vote against the USA PATRIOT Act?<<

No, I do respect him for that.

>>Was the McCain-Feingold overhaul of campaign finance a ploy for attention?<<

It's a disaster and was a waste of time and resources as the crooks, no matter what situation, politics or big business, they will always find a way or a loophole and the harder you make it, the richer and more powerful the crooks become.

And who knows, if not for McCain-Feingold, we may have never had people like the "Swift Boat Veterans"
