Seriously, there is no one of any import on that witness list. Why would they really make it a point to take part in that kind of charade?

9. So?
Former Nixon guy and author of a largely unnoticed book.

Wake me when they're questioning, I don't know, the Attorney General or someone who might have something more than just the same musings we've all been doing anyway.

12. Yeah, your right-What does a guy like him know?
Only that he was the Attorney General and a key witness to the illegal wiretapping by a previous President....

What would he have to add to the discussion?

This is a game. A WASHINGTON insider game. The BIG DOGS don't want Russ as the candidate and he's being hung out to dry. Fucking bastards.

20. Could be CYA, but this also shows WHY Russ should have brought in
Edited on Fri Mar-31-06 11:46 AM by blm
other senators in on his intention to censure BEFORE he told the press. They do better at impossible tasks when they form alliances with like-minded senators - like those seeking NSA documents for investigation already - Kennedy and Leahy.

Kennedy tried to convince other senators on Alito filibuster for two weeks and took it down to the wire, finally getting ONE other senator to lead it with him. That helped bring on 2 dozen more afterwards to join.

I think more senators SHOULD have joined Feingold once he started it, but they probably weren't pleased at being accused of cowering, when Russ didn't exactly jump to help Kennedy lead Alito filibuster out of the judiciary committee hearings.

Maybe the afternoon session will get more senators - Kennedy is leading immigration debate, after all. And I felt pretty sure that Durbin supported censure and Feingold.

21. So you're saying they skipped the hearing out of spite?
...Because they were pissed about Feingold's parliamentary tactics?

Isn't the issue a little more important than that?

And if Feingold couldn't have gathered the support of the spineless masses in the Senate (and it's obvious from their COWERING that he couldn't have), he should have just dropped the issue? Or gone and done the right thing anyway? (as he did).

Kerry attacking other senators as too cowering to lead with them, even as many were pissed at them for calling for filibuster.

I am being optimistic that more senators will join in the session later. I will not pre-judge them now with immigration debate also on the table and see what the afternoon session brings.

Who thinks Feingold should have dropped the issue? Why is discussing it with LIKE-MINDED senators a strange idea to you? There were already senators trying to get more investigation of NSA spying BEFORE Russ' censure resolution - he could have discussed it with them. Durbin and Feingold work together on alot of votes - why cut him out of any discussion?

Senators PLAN together to help foresee any pitfalls and adjust accordingly.

Anyway - we''ll see what the day brings - I am hoping for senators to show more support for Feingold and the debate, and the PUBLIC DEBATE was a great goal for Feingold that IS succeeding anyway, no matter what.

15. Very Sad Commentary on Dem Senators
I hate to say this ... because the consequences are tragic for our nation.

But this is how average, disengaged American voters will perceive the Democrats.

The Feingold censure resolution is easy, a proverbial "no brainer" ... the Democrats in their absence and silence are pathetic.

If they will not stand up to a clear illegal action on the part of the president, if they will not stand up to support one of their own, if they will not reach out to ask patriotic Republicans to join them in censuring Bush ----- then how could you ever trust them to defend this country militarily or economically?

(minus Governor Dean and a few other in the House)promote apathy and disillusionment in our nation. They are the primary part of the cause of the apathy.
