Why is our President so stupid?
I really want to know. I realize he's a puppet of the big boyz but really, they couldn't find someone with english as a first language? Why someone who has a daddy complex? Why not someone who understands the consequences of war?

1. The real question is
Why do so many people support him despite him being so stupid?

6. THAT is the question
of the century!

Remember though, he did steal two elections.

Paper ballots with paper receipts are the way to
go for our future elections.

was younger. I think he stopped (I doubt it) when he turn 40.

5. I believe that in a democracy....
... politicians are incarnations, avatars, distillations of the people they represent.

Full story is more complicated, but that the nutshell version at any rate.

so that they can be "run" from behind the scenes by all their advisors, and guess who picks the advisors...

The only GOP president I can remember who didn't fit the pattern was Nixon, and look what happened to him.

11. Bush isn't an idiot
Essentially, he just plays one on TV. This is the best way to make his base think he's just a regular guy - one of them. Bush knows this. Actually I think Bush is a genius in the same way that a really good used car salesman is a genius.

The real problem is that Goergie isn't interested in understanding the complexities of systems, he's not interested in applying knowledge or facts to situations. Rather, he's very ideological. His ideologies aren't what most people would agree with, but they don't really look hard enough to understand what those ideologies are.

14. No, he's an idiot ...

He's just not quite the idiot he appears to be.

Perhaps it would be better to use the classic refrain that he's an incompetent, miserable failure. Everything he has ever touched has turned to shit, yet he has the social, political, and financial connections to keep getting new opportunities to screw up, largely because he is easily manipulated by those who can use his screw-ups to make themselves disgustingly more wealthy than they already are and to advance their half-assed schemes in a quest for ultimate power.

19. Incompetent, miserable failure
You can't deny that he's gotten almost everything he wanted. To me, that means he's a success. In terms of being a public servant he's definitely a failure. It's just that he doesn't have the public's interests in mind.

31. Actually, I can ...

Everything we know about Bush points to a deep need for approval from those who will never give him the esteem he craves. This is the way with demagogues.

13. They needed a front man that had a certain "image"
The image, supposedly, of the 'good ole boy, straight shootin' born-again Christian southerner" with great name recognition. No matter if the image fits, they create the image. They also needed someone who agreed with their plans enough - and what better person than someone who has spent his whole life trying to impress dear old dad - the same dad that invaded Iraq himself. Plus, they needed someone who was just plain incurious enough to allow corporate and neocon interests to call most of the shots. They can easily keep him isolated and filter in information, because he just doesn't give a shit. It's perfect.

18. Why do people insist on calling him the president?
He may have been sworn in, but I will never call him the president. Al Gore was president, and Kerry or Gore was going to be president.

I don't know what * is, other than a fraud and a miserable failure.

23. Conceived with a weak sperm
Edited on Fri Mar-31-06 01:13 AM by JeffR
To quote the late Bill Hicks. Brought up in a family apparently not dissimilar to the clan in "The Hills Have Eyes", though evidently quite a few notches up the affluence scale. Fried whatever neurons he was born with, on a steady diet of Peruvian Flake and White Lightnin'.

Never travelled, never wanted to learn anything. Couldn't find oil, in Texas.

The ultimate exemplar of the privilege of legacy and the legacy of privelege.

He's just what the junta ordered, really.

Someone who understands the consequences of war? This person doesn't understand the consequences of anything, and he's never had to.

27. It's easy to be stupid when you've never had to work for a living
or had to fend for yourself. When you ass has been covered for every mistake you've made and you've never been held accountable for anything, stupid pays. Sometimes I wish I was stupid.
