Bush posed in front of books.
This pic was taken yesterday at Shrub's ranch as he signed something into law. Notice how they posed him in front of books -- part of the recent campaign to convince the public that this moron actually reads.

Does anyone else notice something strange about these books? They seem to have a shiny veneer about them. Almost like they're covered with plastic, and on some you can see little labels near the bottom...and...wait! Are these library books? Did Rove and the other handlers have to run to the library to get books to place on the shelves?

1. That's what Laura does all day long!
She just can't keep herself from putting clear covers and labels on any book she sees. You can take the girl out of the library, but you can't take the library out of the girl.

30. I read where she arranged them according to Dewey Decimal System
She's also a neat freak and is concerned about people disturbing vacuum lines on the rugs. Sounds like a case of OCD.

33. As a former library tech,
that is true. I moved out of the library a few classes shy of my MLS, but I have 5,000 or so volumes at home, the primary consideration in shopping for a new house was available wall space for shelves, and my books are reasonably well organized. Except for the several hundred picture books, which my 5-year-old grandson rearranges on a daily basis, so that no particular title can be found when wanted.

I even have a bunch of books with labels on them; for my personal classroom library available to my students. Those are at work, though.

Do you think he actually reads any of them? Perhaps Laura has to read them and give him the cliff notes?

I remember when the Bush campaign was on for the 2000 selection. Many school librarians were convinced that school libraries would fare better under a * admin because of Laura. They've long since experienced a change of heart. :-(

48. it's easy to keep a tidy library if nobody ever reads the books!
No need for shelf-reading, repairs, etc.

Just a bit of dusting, now and then.

50. kinda the opposite of clearing brush, actually!
Ecologists suspect that worldwide, most of the endangered species are vulnerable because of habitat destruction (deforestation, urbanization, and other human activities). And there's *, out there with his chainsaw destroying vegetation. Ironic, eh! (The endangered species which * is most likely to see on his spread is the golden-cheeked warbler, which actually needs old-growth "cedar" to build its nests.)

Look closely, and you can see:

My Pet Goat
Fascism For Dummies
The Stepford Wives
The Little Prince
Curious George Destroys a Nation
The Idiot's Guide to Riding a Bike

I'm sure that other DUers can spot other books too... :)

41. He would get it for the title, "The Little Prince"...
...then he would open the cover, start reading and then realize
it's a 'big people book.'

Then he would become confused by the big words and philosophy--and
go back to destroying the country.

25. Interesting that the gap in the books is right over his head.
For some reason, it just seems so appropriate. One empty space over another space.

I also believe that the thick item above his thick head is a videotape set of something, or else it's a chronicle of the Civil War. Which, as we all know, bush has never indicated any interest in the Civil War, except for attempting to start one in Iraq. (Here, too, it seems.)

(I saved the photo and tried to zoom in with my photoediting software, but apparently they took the picture with just a low-enough resolution so that when I enlarge it, it just blurs the titles. Ah, well. Another one of life's great mysteries not to be solved -- by me, anyway... )
