Bush's "I'm not making this up" = Nixon's "I am not a crook"
Edited on Sat Jan-07-06 10:27 PM by yurbud
If you have to say this, it can only mean one of a couple of things:

  • I have a reputation for making things up

  • I made up a lot of other stuff but not this

  • I made this up and I'm worried you'll catch me.

Now it's time for the mainstream press start compiling lists of things he has made up, from his lies about 9/11, Iraq, Social Security "reform," his medicare prescription drug scam, and on and on and on...

Bush: 'I'm Not Making This Up'

Plaintive president pleads case for war, wiretapping
by James Ridgeway
January 5th, 2006 10:52 AM

WASHINGTON, D.C.—No doubt reassuring millions of Americans, President Bush yesterday defended his program of legally dubious wiretapping at home and strategically dubious regime change abroad for fighting terrorists by insisting he isn't in la-la land.

Terrorists want to use Iraq as a home base, Bush told reporters on Wednesday. He then added:

"I'm not making this up."

2. Letterman's best line against O'Reilly
(except for "diapers on horses")

was when O'Reilly said, "you think I'm making this stuff up?"

Letterman answered simply, "yes, I think you're making it up." :-)

9. someone should ask or just tell that to Bush directly
"Mr. President, what percentage of what you say do you just make up, how much is stuff you read on your cue cards like a trained monkey, and what do you actually know yourself?"

7. this is like "catapult the propaganda" -- both probably stage direction
that he read out loud, like the time his dad said: "Message: I care," which was likely supposed to be the TONE of his comments.

* you are a liar
I remember at my University, (FTU) which was the last place he spoke in Public
we were aloud to put a huge banner across a ramp within easy viewing of Tricky Dick that said

WE DON'T BELIEVE YOU"
I'm not making that up.

I think we are gonna have a great new phrase or Bushism and
I'm not making that up.

8. Yes. Every thing that Bush says is the exact opposite of the truth.
Invert the meaning of every statement and there you have it, the truth. He says "I'm not making this up" means "I'm making this up". (which we already knew.)
